Negotiations

Dealers are like casinos.
You can try any strategy you want but will loose anyway.

Get the dealer to throw in a set
just walk if they don't go to another dealer
if that's how you want to buy a car

Out here the used car market is "a sellers market"
especially the dealerships are selling far more used than new
many can't keep them in stock, even for premium prices
(or was last I looked)
even some newer privately owned stuff

I even recently saw a TV ad for dealers wanting to buy good used cars
it was a Modesto or Sacramento dealer IIRC

a Volt :poke:, I'm so so sorry for you
But;
a happy wife, is a happy life

With no trade-in the guy has just lost an opportunity for more profit - which he probably was counting on. I'd ask him to throw in a set of tires or meet you half way on the cost but don't count on it.

Negotiate the buy using the old vehicle as trade in bait. Work out the best price on the new vehicle. Then tell them you changed your mind on the trade in but keep them to the negotiated price on the new one. When they are pricing the new vehicle, they assume they will make a couple thousand on the trade in, so they drop the price on the new vehicle accordingly.

You're NOT doing the dirty in the back of a Volt!!! I think it's a Federal law or something.
I don't know about federal law, but it sure seems like it would be against the laws of physics.

Tires were good, not a scratch on it.
They actually lost 2k on it. He showed me the purchase card from the auction. Was a California lease. He said they screwed up cause they didn't add options when the priced and advertised and I agreed as we've been looking at them.
It had leather, heated wheel and the Bose system and subwoofer. Most are 2k more with no options.
38k on it for 13k. I didn't even care to negotiate.
2 of their mechanics were fighting about who could buy it if we didn't. Maybe BS but who knows.
All I know is with these options and miles ones in our area go for over 17k. Now I'm just dealing with the shame of a chevy in the garage and plugged in.
