Rebuilding the factory buckets on my 71 GTX. Seat foam is shot. New covers were installed in 1996 and able to reuse, as its good condition. Have a new foam kit for "71-74".
I've had 71 RR/GTX's for 30 years and Legendary Interior told me on several occasions the tooling for proper repo-71-72 bucket seat foam was too expensive and would never be made. But I guess we get to use and modify the 71-74 kits, which is really 73/74 back rests only.
So wanting to know how anyone has approached re-foaming the back rests? Take out all the springs to mimic the 73/74 back rests, or trim the foam down to fit? The old foam is too shot to re-skin.
I carefully work the springs out of one seat back, and the foam still fits funny. I would prefer to use the original springs.
