The car was sold as restored/rebuilt. Looks pretty darn good. That's why I signed off on it and gave my dad the nod to get it bought. E Bay purchase.....never ever again without seeing it first hand. Extensive cleaning of exterior items happened, zero rebuilding did. The engine picture below looks pretty darn good. Under that new paint is a 383 engine that was never touched and still had all the gunk in the oil pan. Everything on the car was to be operational such as lights, turn signals, radio, etc, etc. Absolutely nothing worked including the speakers that are not present.
I gotta give it to the seller, he did a pretty nice job of dressing it up.
The good thing is the car is pretty complete and we are on track to get it up and going.
I spent the first part of my life turning wrenches and building/restoring cars, trucks, etc. I've stepped away from that world and enjoy working on cars for a hobby instead of a paycheck.
Little rusty and out of practice, mostly I've lost the ability to just tear it apart with the confidence that I would have it done without issue. Add in the fact that my career today doesn't lend me as much time in the past.
I have a local friend that does all my engine machining, etc and so I called on him to rebuild the 8 3/4 as well as the 4spd.
My main concern/question is in regard to the right hand/passenger side axle. This has the adjuster. When I pulled the differential out I noticed that right axle had .1" up and down travel. (like the bearing was toast) It is all together and it still has about the same travel.
Before I paint this thing up and get it installed I figured I better double check everything myself. Have a 1970 manual and haven't read it word for word just yet, but skimmed through it and didn't see anything about any up and down travel, only a value range for side to side.
Thanks, Look forward to hanging around this place.
