Hi

I recently bought a 66 Belvedere here in the UK. It's in petty colours and with a 440 and 727.

It's a recent import.

I'm pleased with it so far, but I'm planning to drive to le Mans 24hr race this june, so lot's to do!

I've already had the dash out to check out no functioning fuel and temp guages, seems like it's the voltage regulator, but I cleaned the boards and soldered those little pin connectors whilst it was apart.

I plan to bridge the alternator connection etc.

I have the following bits on order:

Pertronix Igniter II and Flame thrower coil. (to change from points)

440 source 60 amp alternator kit (I have some terrible no stock brackets on the car and a 30 amp alternator)

RHS mirror to fit so I can see whats going on...

RTE solid state dash voltage regulator.

Fan cowling, seat belts, battery clamp, glove box cardboard etc

So far most of this is from summit racing or classic industries.... Should I have gone somewhere else?

And a load of other service bits and pieces inc Millers 20W 50 oil.

A few questions:

1) Once I install the pertronix, would it be a good idea to get a wideband on the car and measure AFR? Is there anyone locally who has good knowledge of setting up these carbs? (Carter AFB)

2) I have some window issues, one doesn't wind up straight, think there is a plastic guide or something missing? any idea where I can get little bits like this?

3) the car has a 318 poly 22"? p/n 2582942 rad in it, should this be sufficient???? The engine is a very stock 440 apart from some tubed headers as far as I can make out. (no overheating so far, but hence I'm adding a shroud)

Radiator wise, it seems that a few early big blocks did use a 22 inch core radiator??

The problem is that to put a 26 inch one in needs new sheet metal side supports to be welded into the car, from what I can make out anyway.

I have also been reading a b body upgrade book and it says "for engines of over 450bhp, you should seriously consider upgrading to a 26 inch radiator"

I'm guessing I have 370bhp on a good day, probably less!

So for the meantime I plan to fit a shroud, and plan c would be to run Evans waterless coolant as insurance...

Not sure if any of those ramblings made sense, feeling the pressure of getting her registered and fully fettled for le mans.

Here's a token picture, tight squeeze into the garage...

Welcome to FBBO....a sweet looking car you have there. :hello2:

Welcome aboard. Very nice car. I have a 440 with 22 inch rad and a shroud and no problems at all. Good luck with your deadline.

Greeting and welcome to the madness . . . I've got a 1967 Belvedere Convertible that I'm working on.

Nice looking car you got there ! !

Good luck with your deadline.

24 hours of Le Mans sounds like FUN !

Yes, there are 7 of us going. It's a great atmosphere :) About 100,000 British people drive there for example :)

Most important question: How many burnouts can I do around the site!?

A couple of years ago I went and there was a charger there on the camp-site that had bought steel plates to put on the grass, just to do burnouts!

Moot point: It's going to cost a fortune to get there and back; if you think gas is expensive in the US, thnik again...

Just worked it out as equivalent to roughly $8 a gallon we pay at the moment !!?

Welcome to the site! My first car was a 66 Belvedere II and I have 2 66 2dr post cars now with one of them being in the stable for over 25 years. The small radiator usually has to do with what engine it came with and the options the car had like AC, PS, PB etc. Do you know what engine it came with? Even a 361 2 barrel with no options might have a small radiator.

welcome to FBBO from warm & sunny NorCal

Originally a 273, but the radiator is from a 318 if you trace the part no.
