Hello everyone. I'm a 60 year old male who did something stupid. I decided to restore a 68 Super Bee at my age. It's a pretty basic car. Light green exterior, two tone green interior, 383/727 with 3.23 gears. It's pretty rotten so I have a southern body to get what I need. It still needs trunk and floor repairs but has lots of usable body parts. One question I do have is would you paint it the original green or a color that you like more. The southern body is a beautiful copper color that I really like. Would it hurt the value very much not being the original color?

Welcome from Pittsburgh! If it isn't a numbers matching 383/727, changing body color would be just a preference. Restore the car they way YOU want it. At 58, I'm not that far behind you. Keep wrenching and get 'er done! Besides, 60 is the new 40!

~ I agree with Roadrunnerh. Welcome from Southern Ontario and post up pics of the Bee.

Thanks for the replies. It is 95% original and complete. Just missing the power bulge hood, original carburetor and exhaust manifolds. Numbers matching engine, transmission and rear axle. I have the fender tag and build sheet. It's just horribly rusted.

I'm 59 in March so I'm right in the same ballpark. I agree with the others, no need to keep the color stock as the car isn't anything that rare. Paint it a color that YOU love. That's what I did... :)

Welcome from NY.

I'd consider swapping everything over to the good body.

Welcome to FBBO from also in Ontario. What part are you from? I am South of London/St. Thomas. I agree with the majority: paint it a colour you are happy with. That's what I did with my 1967 R/T; it went from original Bronze Metallic to Daffodil Yellow. I have never regretted it. I bought a new SuperBee in February, 1969.

Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate the comments. One other question, which color do you prefer?

My new '69 'Bee was Sunfire Yellow with black stripe and guts. When the new SuperBee was introduced mid-year in 1968, most of the car magazines ran a colour ad of it in that colour. When I first saw that ad, I was smitten! Fast forward about a year, and a new SuperBee was being backed off the car transporter at my local Dodge store. Of course, it was a yellow coupe with black BumbleBee stripe. My bank had already approved me for a loan on a different car, but I turned around, and went into that dealership, and after 3 hours of drooling and bargaining, I owned it. This was on a Friday night, and the 'Bee had not yet been PDI'd. I had to wait until Monday afternoon to pick it up, and drive it for the first time. To me, that is the best colour for it, mainly because of that ad I saw so many years ago.
This is the only colour picture I can find of my '69 SuperBee. Taken by a local newspaper in the summer of 1969 at the main intersection in Grand Bend, Ontario.
