New member from the Philippines

Kumusta Po... I know there are lots of old American iron in PI, been there many many times and will be back to visit relatives.

Welcome. I too lived in the PI when I was a teenager - many moons ago. Lots of fond memories. Good luck with the Coronet.

Welcome.
My brother lives in Cebu.

Mabuhay! Welcome from Canada. I'm shocked that mopars are alive in the PI. I follow a few vloggers in the Philippines and absolutely can't wait to return for a visit. My mom & dad both passed away in Tarlac within the last year and I am unable to visit or even retrieve their ashes due to travel restrictions. I can't see any loosening of the restrictions till next year.

Hi kaibigan! condolence for the loss, yes they are alive but we are very few, B bodies and mopars alike, let us meet once the restrictions are lifted. be safe mate.

Thank you for the warm welcome!.
I will post pictures soon.

i am semi positive that it's a 273 v8, not a 318 since the 5th vin is a D, now i have a unused 318 engine gasket kit set here that i cant use (maybe if there is some parts of it i can still apply on the 273?, if not any takers? its fresh and sealed but the location is the philippines..), anyways no plan or capability to upgrade to a bigger one, ( id like to stay matching numbers, since basically its a survivor with only 13k miles or so.) and i would like to ask for help on getting this 273 breathe a little, intake manifold, and exhaust, and carbs, and maybe if there are 66 coronet owners here who are getting rid of extra parts or trims that would be lovely. problem is summit racing doesnt offer 273 intake manifolds and such. maybe anyone here have some sources?

currently we are doing the suspension works, bushings and such, just fitted a fresh gas tank and routed it with new lines, will use this as a partial daily driver too!, cant really buy an engine from the USA because of paperworks and restriction + local law, next ill be doing some few interior bits (arm rest, and carpet etc), and the exhaust, so far i have Super 40's here, and plan on doing 2.25 inch diameter exhaust with an H pipe, and 3 inch exit on the rear.

Mopar buds i am new to this,
Thanks again for the welcome

Take care guys.

If it is an "LA" gasket kit, you can use it.

If it is a "poly" kit, then you can use parts of it.

Dual exhaust is almost always a good idea.

Mopar thought it was good for 20 additional HP on a 318.

I'd do 2" or 2 1/4" although 2 1/2 might not be too much and might be easier to find parts and tips for.

An easy to find Edelbrock "Performer 318" intake is a good addition and a 500-625-ish AFB/AVS style 4 barrel.

My brother is always telling me how low cost labor is there. You could probably have the suspension rebuilt, motor rebuilt, car painted, and new interior for about $120 in labor. I guess parts is your only real expense?

welcome to FBBO

I agree 2.5" exhaust is over kill for your motor, and might cause some performance issues? I'd go dual 2.25" all the way through. A dual plane aluminum intake and 600cfm carb will help it breath too.

Good day mates, Magandang umaga to PI bretherens.
can anyone help identifying what engine this is?
im pretty much sure its a 273, but the last owner said its a 318, and at times we get mismatched builds here in our shores, like my bud's 59 T-bird is with a 390, not a MEL or FEL engine, im no expert honestly and this is my first american / muscle / mopar car.

Still a long way to go!
Body is still ongoing with the trims ( some i lack and is hard to find here )
Suspension is still going to be worked on.
Exhaust too, but first need to identify what engine i currently have so i can order parts hehe.

Take care guys

Definitely an "LA" small block, so it could be either a 273 or a 318 (or even a 340/360).

The casting numbers on the side of the block might help.

There "should be" a stamping on the left side of the front of the block below the head with the displacement and year code.

That can be very difficult to find and read, though.

Did you ever find the 5th VIN digit?

BTW- that's a very cool color.

The vin reads WL21D, and yes i have high hunch that its a 273, but until we lift the thing and let the mechanics peek at the code, im kinda holding back on buying parts for the engine.

Thanks man, its the original color from the factory, really love that shade of green, will take more better pictures once she's out and running properly.

Welcome aboard!

The intake suggests a 273. Even more so since his statement of saying what was normally available.

On the drivers side of the engine block is a series of numbers. The last 3 or 4 numbers will have the displacement embossed. There will be a sequence then a dash or space, the displacement and often a single last digit. It will clearly have the numbers cast in.

will check them out when we get to work.
