Welcome from Ohio, very nice looking ride! Your shop most likely said 9.5 because that's the common go to one size fits all rim for muscle cars that's readily available. Rim manufacturers can produce rims at a much cheaper price if they have a particular size that fits many applications, you'll find deviating much from that size typically means more money.
