Decided I was not going to deal with the effect of having a stretchy throttle cable on my 2013. I hate having to go an inch into the gas pedal before something happens. So I threw $400 at a Hypertech Interceptor.
It modifies the signal from the throttle, MAP sensor, airtemp, and cam.
Just plugs in between them.
Got rid of the "where is it" feeling.
Now I can use the pedal with light pressure like a real car.
And it goes....right away.
There's power up high in the pedal, you no longer have to fish down for it.
Wet weather, so no go fast testing, but I have seen claims it hurts quarter milers.
That wouldn't matter to me.
It woke up the gas pedal, and the engine.
Makes the 2013 behave much more like my 1966.
It seems to remove at least one level of electronic nanny.
But the best part not quite expected was the mileage increase.
Best flat water level gas mileage before was right around avg 27.
Same test trip now is around 30 mpg.
And it seems more ready to jump into 4 cylinder mode, and stay there, AND in overdrive on bigger slopes.

Anyone else heard of this?
I like the idea much better than flashing new tuning parameters.

If you want to wake that thing up while not sacrificing gas mileage I recommend you look into a tuner such as the Trinity by Diablo sport, it should be the first thing you buy for a modern muscle car IMO, and a catch can... I run a trinity on my SRT and it allows you to make minor adjustments such as changing the tire size, also major changes such as timing curves. It also comes pre loaded with custom tunes written by Diablo tooner, one of the best in the biz when it comes to late model hemis. I had High Horse Performance write a custom tune for mine and couldn't be happier but now I can't hook up even with 295 nitro NT05's on the rear. Oh and lastly they have throttle boost adjustments you can make which would wake up that sleepy pedal you're referring to. I attached a photo of mine mounted on the windshield

I read about all the amazing options tuners are able to do, but I'm not racing, and I have to fiddle with a multiplicity of controllers and parameters at work quite enough... don't want to fiddle for tuning.
Just wanted to make the car behave like a real throttle cable was there instead of the microprocessor and actuator time lag thing, highly damped by engineering choice.
Really impressed with idea of fooling the ECU to behave differently instead of flashing parameters.
That's what I have to do many times at work, and I appreciate that it seems to be a modification in the analog realm.

I guess this must be a byproduct of "drive by wire". I never could understand why they would go from a simple cable connection from the pedal to the TB, to an electronic wire connection. Unlike going to a distributorless ignition and eliminating components, this seems to do just the opposite.

06 Charger Daytona. Sweetest throttle ever.

09 Challenger tracpac 6 speed, worst ever. All on or all off, no feel. Awful drivabilty. Nanny stuff out of control. Jerky. Has a mind of its own. Was gonna put a Procharger on but it would make these habits much worse.

The lack of response to the pedal made it feel really numb in snow, about like trying to walk and having no sensation in your feet.
It's really the only complaint I had about the car, and this cleans it up perfectly.

Diablo Trinity solved that issue on my "transplant". The difference was night and day.

I was thinking about changing to some kind of cable operated throttle body next summer, but this will probably be enough to make me happy.
I wonder if anyone has converted an electronic actuated throttle body to a cable.

So what did you do?
It must be even more maddening with a manual.

Nothing yet. It is maddening. Usually, I take the Train or drive the Coronet. Put 7k on the Coronet last year, and 2k on the Challenger. The 09 is my "last" new car. I'd gladly spend 400 if the throttle would be more like the 06 Charger. I have not even taken care of the skip-shift yet, but did buy the fix. Nothing can piss you off more than grabbing second around a turn and having the motor cut off detecting wheel spin. That's why I floored it! This is why I prefer the predictable command performance of my 48 year old Coronet.

Exactly! The car was always second-guessing how much torque I asked for, and always stingy with it up at the top of the pedal. When you want to swing the back out with torque it's horrified that you would do that.
*#@!& the blankety-blank #()+-*!@s.

I wouldn't say it's exactly like a real cable, because it doesn't snap back to closed throttle on release, but comes back down kinda like an old fashion manual factory carb.
Suppose that is to keep idiots from losing it coming off the throttle too quick.
But it's still worth 400 to me, to have a real gas pedal AND see more economy...
I don't recommend many things, and can't speak for racing or dyno results, but this is really worth it to just for regular drivers who miss the response their old Mopars have in the go-pedal.

Bingo

It's cheaper online but 396 @ AutoZone, got it in one day, I was in a hurry, put it on in a 30 min lunch break.

Somehow auto spell deleted "dashpot" from the previous post and tried to "correct" it three times during this post.....

A dashpot is the the thingy the keeps the throttle from snapping shut too fast on factory manuals.....I never had a manual...did folks just rip them out?
Do people keep them on their cars, still active?

I have a 2006 6.1 in my 68 Charger. It has the stock computer setup with the fly by wire junk. I haven't experienced the issues you have but I have issues with the engine surging at light throttle and hate the fly by wire aspect. I have changed the throttle body and the gas pedal bell crank with no improvement. Do you think the Hypertech unit would help? The car runs like a scalded cat at full throttle but a normal take off from a stop light gives me fits. Seems like it doesn't know whether to slow or go.

Yes, I am so happy with having real response up at the top of the pedal.
Full throttle was always fine, but the light throttle gave me fits.
Never anywhere but lost.
So good to have the throttle right there to respond.
I think it's like $360 at competitive sites.
Are you using the electronic throttle?
The best part is today's longer water-level drive where I pulled up a 31.4 mpg avg over 70 miles.

Sheesh!

Yes I have the drive by wire throttle. Hate it! Glad to hear you are happy with it.
I checked the Hypertech out on the internet. Checked out the Diablo unit also. My car has been a money pit since day one so I may go with the Diablo just for more ways to get me in trouble. Thanks for the thread.
