new rebuild wont start

im kinda dubfounded i guess i cant get my 440 to star up firing order is right i have fuel good spark dist is right is there somthing that somone found or had a prob before in starting up a new engine the only thing i noticed is the coil n balast ar verry hot and when should there b power to neg and poss on coil ?? i have constand power on pos w key on n a verry dim on neg with key on but flashes when trying to start? any help would be great or just somone to give me a hand
 
Have you verified rotor is pointing at number one when its at top on compression stroke.
 
do you have your distributor wires set up on a "counter clockwise" rotation?

are you getting fuel?
 
Do you have spark from the coil? Based on what you said you may want to double check your wiring.
 
Make sure your dist/oil pump gear is installed in correct position. I believe it parallel to camshaft when #1 is at TDC. Then set initial timing to 10 degrees BTDC with a timing light while cranking it. Should start then. Long as cam timing is correct, and your new carbs are working properly. Good luck!
