Hi y'all. Name is Mark, 21, from just outside Detroit Michigan. Have a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T clone that I bought about 3 years ago. Has a 383 with a 727 3 speed auto and 4/10 suregrip rear end. Car looks beautiful, but wasn't restored correctly by the guys I bought it off of and its starting to show some decline. Have completely rebuilt motor and trans. Interior is all original. Got a year left in college and then I would like to begin a full body resto (stripped down, acid dip, repaint, etc). So that's basically the gist about what I've got and am happy to share any more info if anyone is interested. I'm still on the young end on the owner spectrum and still learning all the time so I look forward to learning from all of you as well.

One thing to start is a question about paint. Trying to figure out costs and how much to put away to save for the resto. If i strip the car myself which I can do, I know the acid bath will cost me around $1800-2200. Body work I can't do, so I'll have to have that done. It's got some trunk pan rust and the start of some rocker rust. That's it from what I can tell. Anyway anyone have any idea on the cost for the body work, primer, and paint? Oh, and the paint it will be is about $1200 if I buy it myself as a bit of reference. I know it's pretty hard to tell without knowing exactly how much body work, but I'm just looking for ballpark.

Appreciate any info! Oh and I will have it at the 2016 Autorama in Detroit at the end of February so if you happen to be by come on over!

Hi Mark!
Welcome aboard and thanks for joining the forum
Nice car!

I like the car as is...
Resto?
Nothing under $20K

1. I would not ACID dip the car.
2. Replace the trunk pan with trunk pan kit from Auto Metal Direct.

Take one step at a time.

Welcome to FBBO Mark. Nice Charger. Good luck with your restoration. You will find the guys on this forum very knowledgeable and helpful.

The paint has scratches and dings that can't really be seen in pics, and from the little body work I've done, there's already a decent amount of bondo on the car already, and not all is flush like it should be, so wanted to start from scratch. That's why I was thinking about having the body dipped. Thanks for the input and the welcomes!

:welcome: aboard Mark!

Congrats on owning the best year and "B" body.

Welcome Mark from Alaska. I am looking forward to seeing how you rebuild your new treasure as I am in the middle of a 69 Coronet at present. Keep sending the pictures, she looks pretty good right now. As all the questions you want, there will always be multiple guys here that have done it the best way....and be able to tell and show you how.

Welcome from Farmington Michigan, nice looking Charger.

I had my 63 Dodge Polara media blasted
(Ask forum member Donny what he thinks of acid dipping)

63 Dodge Polara before and after media blast.
