New to the Mopar world. Need help with 2 questions

Thanks for the encouraging comments guys,

Moparmarks, thanks for decoding.

I had a feeling the engine color was wrong and I don't really like the vibrant blue. From my knowledge and watching my uncle build his 71 Challenger R/T the engine is ORANGE with chrome blocks/headers??? Is that right? Engine will probably be the last thing I do due to cost.

VIN and FENDER TAG match. Is it possible to take fender tag and vin and move to another car? Answer is probably yes but still have to ask. The original owner told me the car is not an R/T and is a 383. If fender tag says it's a 440hp R/T I just scored a big deal no? Here goes another question. I thought R/T's had the flare vents coming out of the doors? Mine has the two indent grooves.. Totaly lost now and worried someone switched tag's on this resto.

'68-'70 Chargers all had the two indents on the doors. The '70 R/Ts had the covers you speak of. The VIN is also stamped on the rad support...driver's side IIRC, and under the trunk weatherstrip also on the drivers side.

I think things are matching up...

Ok, so I checked inside of the engine bay, just in front of the RAD. I found this - It was sanded and it shows the original color, yellow.

From the picture you can see it says G9 136288 but on the vin it shows a bunch of #'s ...9G 136288. The G9 and 9G are reversed?

I can't find the number in the trunk under the weather stripping b/c it's glued and I am affraid to rip the stripping as it can be anywhere under there.

welcome tendy! to check the trunk rail numbers you will have to peel a little bit of the weatherstripping back, but its really no biggie...IIRC your charger's numbers and my GTX's numbers are in the same place.

check it out...

Could you check the G4 code?

Moparmarks,

Are you asking me to check the G4 code?

Lot's of things in this decode list to consider.

I found the trunk code as well but I cannot read it. It's pretty beat up. It looks as if there are two 8's in it which would match other fender tag, vin, and IIRC # but with the trim glue and newer paint it's near impossible to tell what it really says.

Welcome and congratulations! I too am a newbee from the cold dark north...west....Alaska. I love the pictures and know you are proud of your new girl, you should be. I hope you get as much help from these professors at Mopar University as I have and I will be willing to help anyone as I further my own education. Keep those pics coming, they fuel ALL of our fires!
