Hey,
I'm Al, I'm 42 and I'm from Flint, MI. I've been a Mopar guy since I started driving. Back then I collected a 68 Superbee with a 440 sixpack and a 4 spd, and a 72 and a 73 Challenger. Both Challengers were 340 4 spd cars. I had to sell all my toys when I got divorced back in 93.
I thought I'd never again be able to own another classic Mopar as I bought mine when they were still reasonably priced. But a few weeks back, I saw an ad on craigslist and a guy was looking to trade a rust free southern 68 satellite sport for a chopper of some kind. I've always been into bikes and I had a 68 Triumph chopper that I had just about finished up and the guy took the trade!
The satellite is an original 318 factor a/c car w/console shift auto and 3.23 sure grip. Somebody put a 67 383 4bbl and 727 under the hood. Motor and trans run good, but the interior is completely out of the car as the car is ready for repaint. The only things I'm missing are the seats and headliner. The car is an EARLY special order car and was built in February of 67. That's the earliest I've ever seen a 68 model build. My dad (a retired chrysler engineer) thinks the car was a special order by a chrysler exec.
I found a nice set of front and rear bench seats out of a 66 Coronet for $200. I'm going to pick them up this weekend, but I'm not sure how they're going to work out. Anyone know if the fit is a drop in? I'm a fabricator/machinist, so if they need some massaging, no big deal. I figure for $200, I can always use them as trade bait for what I need.
The car has a lot of new interior parts. It was originally green inside and out, but the new stuff is black. I guess I'll be dying the other parts black. I'm thinking I'll go with white outside and a flat black sixpack hood. For wheels, I'll go the cop wheel/dog dish route. I'd like to eventually swap out the 727 for a 4 speed.
Hit me up...I've got a lot of parts to swap and some I'm looking for!
That's about it for now. Thanks for the access to your site. It looks like a great place to hang out.
Later,
Al
