Welcome from Southern CT. Just bought a 68 Charger last week.

Hi.
Where's the 440 coming from?
I did something like that and it was a real learning experience.
onlyone,
A friend had a low mileage RV engine we're freshening up with a pair of re-worked 69 440 Magnum heads, new oil pan and pickup. It'll be a low compression for a couple years, but it should be enough for the time being and budget.

Man, I felt bad about not having images at first! I took only a couple pics of the car when it arrived on the trailer. The rains stopped long enough today to snap some (admittedly substandard lighting) images ... it's a work in progress.

One surprise was finding evidence of not addressing poor ammeter wiring by previous owner(s), so I've replaced just about all vehicle harnesses. But it's a relief knowing electrical will be up to par.

The car arrived as a rolling chassis with the 383 sitting where the 440 will soon be. I'm having a ball sifting through all the boxes learning what's what and cleaning as I go. At least the interior is moving toward becoming one standard color (the seats and carpet will eventually be new and black). By the way - interior screw kits are lifesavers when one buys "car in boxes."

As promised...

Car looks great man. I hope to bump into you once you're out and about and the weather cooperates.

So, I'm guessing you have a forged crank in this engine and it is drilled/reamed for a pilot bushing?
Good.

Thanks for the double-check

Good.

It's a cast crank (1975) but measured out perfectly for the O.D. of the needle bearing pilot bushing (O'Reilly p/n FC69907). Will depth be a concern?

That's a good question.
I called some engine builders to find out how deep the hole has to be and I could not get an answer.
Must be a trade secret.
That's a crankshaft register bearing you have.
It's not a pilot bushing that goes in the hole.
I used that register bearing but my 4 speed shaft had been shortened already.
The hole has to be little longer than a bushing I would guess.
Other than assembling it to see if there is interference, I can't give you measurements.
