Greetings, always been a car buy but recent event/ trades lead to a 1967 coronet roller in my garage. I am more of a buy and sell type guy but I can stop looking at this car. The car is very solid in my opinion but was a street/strip car. Missing most interior, small cage, trunk pan is cut for fuel cell i guess, so on. My vision would be to bring back a fun street/strip car that I can drive often in the summer. But..... I have a 3 week old! boom. budget. no bueno. So first source of bidness. Drivetrain. Behold, found a elderly woman my parents have always helped with a crusty, very crusty, 1976 dodge motorhome 440 with 727 trans 36k miles on the clock. Free, the price I had in mind. I have done some research and understand the compression may be lower. most likely a cast crank. but for what I am up to, for now anyways, it will work. The plan is to pull drivetrain, clean, inspect, aluminum heads, cam, intake and carb. Any advice, pointers, or local sources for interior pieces would be much appreaciated. Thanks for having me!

A 67 Dodge Coronet project, is one of the biggest money holes in the mopar hobby. Virtually NOTHING is available for those cars. As far as the engine.....It has no compression, and steel heads like 915's would be more suited to any power.

Welcome.
If you don't mind the car being non authentic that helps.
For example. The motor. Seats wheels
It's difficult to get exact parts for the 67. But you could cheat on some parts. Such as the seats and put parts in from other years. As long as they fit who the hell cares.
You will need to ask what parts you can cheat with.

Like the camouflage motor home. Lol

Love that donor vehicle you have hidden there! Welcome to FBBO - good luck with the project.

Welcome, I have the same car... Old strip car and like mmissile said, not many parts are repoopped but I can tell you that it can be done. Luckily floor pans are repopped as well as quarter panel patch pieces.
You have to be patient and on the look out for parts. Some things can interchange with 67 chargers, seats , grills ect. Others you will have to find used.
Look for a member here that goes by the Joel he has a lot of used 67 mopar parts for sale here. Good guy and has always delivered without issue.

Devin, Now that is my kind of car,And yes you can have a fun car BECAUSE it doesn't have to be perfect. You don't have to pay a $1000 for rechromed bumpers. You don't have to replace the trunk floor and use a OE fuel tank. You don't have to install a reproduction interior, You CAN use the engine and trans from the motorhome (if the tranny tailshaft is the same as a car or pickup) And so on. Local swap meets will score you parts(and here on the web) and they can be from any make for seats, gauges, shifters etc. Have fun, build it your way. Hell I'm still building a car that I started 10 years ago.Do it when time and money allow. And enjoy that child because they grow up fast. Who knows, boy or girl you may have someone to be your little helper out in the garage. WELCOME

Welcome from another Hoosier. Parts availability isn't like '68 and up or E bodies, but parts are out there. You just have to look a little harder. Good luck on the project and the new family member. Pretty soon they'll be out there helping.

67 are rare on re-pop parts but there are parts out there. the most expensive pieces are the front grille surround and the rear RT/500 tail panel. Even the 440 tail panel can be up there because they are hard to find in good shape. most of the interior is re-poped by Legendary auto interiors. Cost wise it all depends what you are starting with and where you want to end up. I started with a rust free running car and am no where near complete and am well over 10k in parts alone.

Interesting project

welcome to FBBO from NorCal

Thanks for the feedback guys. I by no means plan to restore this car. It will be more of a rat/gasser than a restore. The RV 440 has 8.5 compression. Roadkill guys just did the identical set up and made near 400 hp to the wheels. Plenty for smoke shows and maybe high 12's. I wasnt biased about mopar just trying to find a solid body of any kind in this area is impossible for 2k or less. Could always LS swap it haha!

Welcome from Ohio and stop the LS blasphemy!!!! Mopar or nocar!

I agree, a rat rod is the best way to go ,have fun and be able to do it on the cheap. I built, raced and had lots of fun with this one for under 10K Photo's are just to give you a idea.....

Welcome from NC! From a fellow 67 Coronet owner I understand the attraction, they are one sexy automobile!
Nice score on the motor. Free is always great!

Welcome aboard! That's just what I did with my 69 belvedere. Rolling project/rat rod / race car turned street/strip. Tons of fun to be had for comparatively little.

That 440 will run great with a cam / intake / heads / carb. 915 heads are great, but super hard to to find.

I ran a 7:1 compression 413 for a few years and it was FUN. 268 cam, rpm intake, mild ported 906 heads and 750 Holley. Not a barnstormer, but I literally put 800lbs of wood pellets in the trunk and the motor didn't even notice.

Cast crank don't make no difference at those HP levels.

Yea a friend of mine is a mopar nut. Has a 440 in a duster and has been running the 440 source aluminum heads for years and make good power. for $1000 new its hard to beat. Not worth going through these crusty heads I have.

Welcome from Mid-Michigan. Good luck with the car.
