The brake job is finished. final cost was $1400.00. I was warned. Now I need to get her registered and insured. She is safely tucked into her storage area (10'X20') due to Hegarty Insurance's requirement. Then to get the transmission leak(s) fixed.
I have gotten a new deeper Transmission pan that allows me one more quart of fluid and a Transgo shift kit as well. After reading many posts here by others in similar situations, I figured that I would take advantage of all that info and use the above. I hope that it is not anything more involved that using the above materials. It looks more and more like I will be registering this car in about 2 weeks. I feel like a little kid looking forward to Christmas morning.
I noticed that when I put the lights on, the instrument panel does not light up at all. I have searched these forums and came to the conclusion that I will be tearing the Dashboard apart to address this issue and another reason is the clear instrument bezel is all cracked from intense heat. I printed out the directions to pulling it apart and am about 97% done. I still have to get under the dash to disconnect the speedometer cable. I'd finish it up but I ran out of strength. I actually got more done than I expected to get done. I am 100% disabled due to extreme heart issues, so this has been something that I HAD to do by myself. For me this is huge. I hope to get back at it tomorrow after I am well rested. I will take and post pictures as well.
Sounds like you're making great strides. That car looks cool, and a great looking friend in Greta. A little patience and determination, goes a long way. I frequently walk away from stuff for various reasons....only to come back with more energy, clearer head, and a better attitude.
mmissle, I could not agree with you more! I am learning new ways in taking my time, or walking away to return after resting. Patience is not something that comes easy to me. Especially after congestive heart failure and 2 heart attacks. In the old days, I would stay on something that needed to get done, but, those days are over. Greta has been with me for over 12 years now. She is the best, bar none. Thank you for the kind words.I appreciate them.
Today, I took the Lower Dash (with the switches) apart and cleaned the frame for it with Simple Green. My brother in law always told me that it is the best thing to clean with, so I follow his advice. after letting it air dry, I went over it with a wire brush to get anything that may have been left behind (old paint, etc.) I then hit it again with simple green, air dried it again and proceeded to paint it in satin black spray. After two coats. I will let it set for 24 hours before starting to letter it in white, like when it was 46 years ago. I am replacing ALL of the switches before I reinstall it. I am also going to replace the faceplate for the instruments and speedometer, as it is all cracked.
Looks like a nice project car. Where did that spoiler come from? It must have been aftermarket. Never seen one on that body style. She'll look sweet with a fresh coat of paint. Good luck with your project and keep posting....
I have seen pics of a 1970 RR with one on it. Thanks for the kind words. I am working on getting it registered, so that I can take it to a couple of friends that do bodywork. I am keeping it the same gold color, because I really like it a lot. I am thinking about maybe painting the lower portions of the body in black. Not sure of that though. I want to get the dashboard all taken care of before then.
I am still working on the dashboard and switch panel. I was given a new clear dash bezel from a friend, replaced the 10 Light bulb sockets and the bulbs. All of the switches have either been rebuilt or replaced. I have been having fits trying to get everything back in it's proper places. I hope and pray that getting it all finished and have everything working correctly, as I never ever want to deal with this again.
Mutt, she looks good. I hope you get her painted soon. I want to see what that gold looks like new! Mine is close in color. I cant wait.... but mine will be spring before it happens.
I am closer to getting this car into the body shop in the next month or so. I have been very busy going through the different systems of the car. Brakes were done, upgraded the engine somewhat with all new Edelbrock air cleaner, 4bbl Carb, Aluminum Intake manifold, Complete Aluminum Heads, Camshaft, Water Pump, Timing chain and all of the bolts and other things to get this all done at one time. I even got a new radiator and Starter as well.
Dropped off the Sport Satellite at my friends shop this morning. They are working out some wiring issues and tearing the top half of the engine off to replace those parts with all new Edelbrock parts. Once that is done, the Body Shop will take over. Getting closer to being finished each day now.
This where we are at today. I'm waiting on a new header back exhaust system, then installation, as well as the distributor and carburetor adjustments. Here is a photo of the Engine Bay today.
