No commercials

Our millennial boy (1991) and his wife have all the first run gadgetry and trades their phones in almost every six months.....but

They have projectors in 2 areas that fill an entire wall with picture, although it's mostly game console and streaming content.

I've been threatening to get a projector since that kid was 9 years old (before that, actually), and he beat me to it.
I only got one a year and a half ago.

Watching "epic" movies on a 3.5 inch screen SUCKS.

Very few tax write-offs are 100%.

...and some that are don't make sense.

Never said "all chips are created equal". Fact remains that this alleged shortage is like 99% of like stories - pure bullshit. I don't buy it for one minute. Oh, yeah, we're closing in on 19 months of said "shortage"... it's all pure BS.
I think part of the problem is the proprietary info
contained on the chip. I don't see why the big 3
aren't scrambling to source their chips to other
manufacturers and be the first bust the dam of
their backlogs.
I've been stuck on the couch these last 5 days
suffering from a bout of sciatica. Out of boredom
I have been counting car/truck commercials and
they average 3-5 in the time my tv is on.
I've got a 750 on a 440 that needs to be tuned,
and it's driving me crazy that I can't get it done.

I don't see why any manufacturers aren't scrambling to manufacture parts in the US, with US labor.

You obviously don't know how tax write offs are used in business.

Actually, I do, and as long as those vehicles sit not ready to sell (as opposed to vehicles sitting that ARE sale-ready), they'll sit, depreciating.

We are dinosaurs. The kids buy their cars online now, direct from dealer to driveway.
Bought my new 2014 Toyota online. Found the back and forth was short and sweet. Made an offered what I would pay "Out the door" no extra fees etc. Only screw up was I forgot floor mats cost me $125 extra, big deal.

New I understand, used NO WAY ... Although My sister bought a 4 year old 911 on line.. Black convertible w/manual 6 speed... It actually turned out to be a really nice car..

In Canada, especially in our bank commercials it’s mixed race same sex couples. That’s all well and good, but does it have to be EVERY freakin’ commercial?
WE are being indoctrinated by a percent of a percent of a percent of the population

THIS.

Funny.

About a year ago...corporations in the USA were doing just this - TRYING. Feeling the support and the love (edited)

Now...not so much.

About a year ago...corporations in the USA were doing just this - TRYING. Feeling the support and the love from not only our citizens, but also from our White House.

Now...not so much.

Interesting the difference it makes with a (p)resident who hates the country he's (theoretically) in charge of...

A thought bordering on conspiracy theory. This
one's kinda out there, but plausible.
With the production of self-driving EV's, private
ownership of cars/trucks would be limited. Cities
would have fleets of vehicles (as busses are now),
where they're dispatched to a persons home if
they need a ride. This would centralize charging
locations, and reduce the need for charging at
home, and solve the problem of charging cars
at apartment buildings.
This is just something that's bouncing around
in the back of my brain.....

Last administration the incentive for US based and sourced manufacturing were tariffs on foreign goods (most of which are still in place).

Now the incentive is no product on the shelves for consumers to buy and questionable delivery dates.

Which is more of an incentive to the manufacturer seeking to make money?

Although the labor market being a "workers market" probably dulls the incentive for the manufacturer.

IMO, the manufacturers need to think of the effect on the country, above their profit margin.

I'm not saying build in the US for a loss, but maybe consider making 2.6 billion instead of the 4.5 billion you were making when you outsourced and off-shored.

I don't blame the manufacturers.

I blame the "workers".

We have ten MILLION vacant job positions in this country right now...and nobody wants to work because they get paid more to stay home.

If I mention WHO is paying them more, this'll get kicked to the PF...but it needs to stop, if we want to save this nation.

Report today said workers are passing up "regular" office jobs for those that offer work at home or partial work at home policies and that those represent about 10% of available jobs.

Kind of hard to work at home in manufacturing.

Hell, I'm ad IT admin and I can't really work at home unless it's on a specific project, or something totally remote admin related.
I might could do one day a month, if that.

What with all the mandates for the swap over to EV's looming, nobody much is interested in building
new automotive chip plants for ICE powered vehicles anywhere, leave alone here.
Who IS building "chip plants" here? Apple, Samsung, Intel....typically for phones and such.

Now, new US plants for EV vehicles?
You bet. Ford is building one here in TN, among others across the country.

Summary? The current "chip shortage" is a manufactured crisis, meant to expedite our being herded
into EV's by process of availability.

A MFG announced an hour ago they're building a $17 billion chip plant in guess where Texas.

I work for a multi-brand dealership. Out of 5 brands...we have less than 30 cars in stock. Total.

Why advertise, when you can't deliver?

Why worry about building, when people aren't working (and aren't planning to go back to work)?

I agree on the medicare ads - I'm over 'em. I've started using my voice remote to find a show, and watching "on demand". I can fast forward through the ads. Currently catching up on Leno's Garage...
90% of everything I watch has been recorded and the DVR goes into FF when a commercial comes on.....even the news and most of that gets deleted after watching the weather.

Can't stand using my phone to surf on any web site....and my phone was bought in July.......2018 because my old one wasn't going to be supported anymore. Huh? It took crappy pics anyway.

With the dealers selling over sticker....maybe they ain't depreciating?

I ain't the only one lol

It's a combination:

1. greed. they charge more because they can. "Go find another one out there..."
2. supply and demand. See line 1 above - "go find another one out there"
3. The only thing that's really depreciating right now, is the dollar. By double-digit percentages. Look at your food bill. Gas bill. Utility bills. What used to cost $1...is now $1.20. $100? Now $120. $1,000? Now $1,200. And so on.
