I just noticed today that I'm getting some kind noise in the steering column of my 71 Road Runner. Like a bad bearing or something while turning and I also got a noise like gears are grinding on one turn. A sound like throwing the car into park while the vehicle is moving that sound.any ideas?

Power.no noise from the pump or leaks.thinking its a bad steering column upper bearing.

Have someone inside the car turn the wheel while you listen & feel for the problem.

i bought a steering column bearing. It sounds like the noise is right under the steering wheel. Is that bearing hard to replace? Do I need a special tools other then a steering wheel puller? I also think my power steering pump is going bad.

This is how I did mine. When you get it apart check the back of the collar. The upper shaft lock plate was hitting the inside of the collar. When you put the collar back on with new bearing you have to draw the shaft through the collar.

Seems Pretty hard specially without the correct tools. Is it possible to just spray bearing with wd-40?

More pics. Why can't I load more than 10 pics at a time.

To prevent people from photo-bombing the site and making reading posts on a phone more difficult.
