Somewhat new on the forums and not sure where to put this so I'll ask it here. I have a 71 charger I'm restoring but, it has no build sheet or Fender tag, is it possible to obtain one with just the VIN? And is this something Galen Govier can do with the information he has? appreciate any help, trying to do a halfway decent Resto and at least have a build sheet to show and possibly make a fender tag from. All legally of course! not trying to dupe anyone on a resale before it is suggested. Thanks!

No.

If it's not there... it's not there! You can't get a fender tag made if you don't have a build sheet, so just enjoy the car. And don't use that GG swear word here again....

These and some light gauge sheet metal will make a tag

Some are SO condescending...., coulda put a little more effort into it though there are WAY better GIF's out there, lol. Owell, my intentions were good. Ill be sure not to mention that name again. Thanks all!
I have no use for GG either. I talked to his lead man at a show in Georgia. As I never actually talked to him, what made me mad was how the his lead man insinuated that I really didn't know anything about my car and the only way to get the truth about it was to pay for his inspection. I purchased that car from the original owner and its matching #'s all the way down to the carburetor tag.

:drama:

If you don't have a fender tag or build sheet you have to sit in the basement with the rest of us poser's

If the car has rare or interesting options (and to document the factory color), about all you can do is take lots of pictures in it's unrestored condition. take pics of fasteners used, areas of paint overspray, and areas behind and under things like the carpet, seats, and dash.

You didn't say where you looked for BS or how far the car is apart. Found BS under drivers seat carpet, members have found them in many different places.

Yep, tried that. No carpet when I got it. Stripping it down its seems to have one repaint. The trunk, floors and engine bay also seemed to be original paint. It all looked like the B5 73 Ralley survivor I had years ago. Its been a shell for about 3yrs

Inside driver's seat back, or taped on top of glove box are other places I have heard of.

Yep, one of my Superbird sheets came out of the drivers bucket seat back, the other the rear seat frame.

I have done a 70 RR and a Superbird. The RR sheet was hanging on a string in the drivers seat back. The Superbird sheet was in the seat frame of the back of the back seat. I have never found one on the top of the glove box, but as others have I think that's another option. Under the carpet, under the driver's seat in the springs, in the headliner, and under the back seat in the springs, are all places I have personally found build sheets. I also found one taped to the metal on the package tray. This just shows that they can be anywhere in the car, or even another car. I had a friend that built his Superbird and after it was finished he had someone call and ask if he had a Superbird VIN#XXXX. He said he did and found that this person had his original interior. You never know if the build sheet is lost forever or your neighbor has it.

It helps to post the full VIN and join a registry. Many times build sheets wound up in the wrong car at the factory.

My theory is that the line workers simply pulled a rear seat from the bin that matched their copy of the build sheet, and not all of them checked to see if the BS in the seat actually matched the car.

WAY too frequent of an occurrence, and the common factor is the incorrect build sheet always calls for the same interior.

It happened, but not as common as you would think. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
