Oil In Cylinders

About 9 months ago i pulled a 360-3 from a motorhome and put the short block in my cordoba. Kept the old heads, oil pick up, oil pan, intake etc... Motor runs fine ive probably put 15k miles on it since. Just one thing, every time i run it around and let it sit for 10-30 min on a hot day in particular or parked on an incline it hard starts and blows out a huge puff of blue oil smoke. Runs fine after that doesnt smoke AT ALL while driving or idling just on startup. I was under the impression that rings, valve guides/seats would allow oil into the cylinders while running. Any ideas would be appreciated.
 
Sounds like an extreme case of valve seals, but that a short time to sit and a lot of oil for valve seals.

Make sure the PVC system isn’t sucking oil. And make sure it’s not fuel. You might have a cracked bowl or something causing fuel to push out of the carb. Haven’t seen where oil will cause any hard starting in that short of time.
 
Valve guide seals IMO. Once the initial oil from sitting is burned a small amount will still enter the combustion chamber, but is burned immediately and will not show to be smoking.
 
Bought the carb new 6 months ago edlebrock 1405. It only hard starts when it blows out oil so i know its related. Smoke is as blue as it gets. Ill unhook the pcv and replace with a vacuum cap to see what happens i suppose.
 
If valve guide seals ill swap over the heads with a spare set i have from the 360-3 while i fix these as this is my daily driver i use to get to work. Only reason i didnt want to use the old heads in the first place is because they came with valve rotators. Any disadvantage to these on a passenger car?
 
Sounds like piston rings or possibly gasoline boiling over into your intake once you shut the car off, causing slight flooding. You start it up and it puffs light blue smoke from a slightly flooded intake. Have you done a compression test ? A little oil in the combustion chamber is not the end of the world. Are your plugs oily and wet ? I have a little in a couple cylinders and my engine runs very well. Never any smoke out of exhaust at any time. But, it will spit a little oil out the tail pipes onto my garage door if I forget to lift it at start up. My engine runs very well. Not uncommon or nothing to be over concerned with in my opinion. If it runs well.

Sometimes the smoke will be worse when the car is parked on a slope, tilting the engine, making more oil end up at the worn Valve Seals, to me is the give away here as to what the problem is.
 
Get a set of seals and a set of gaskets.
Barrow a spring compressor.
If your pinched for time just do one head as you can. Pull plug rotate piston up stuff top of cylinder with rope so valves dont drop.
Pull springs , replace seals, put back together and move on to next cyl.
 
When u shut the car off warm, open the hood and take the air cleaner lid off. Look in the carb. Does it appear to be steaming, if so it’s leaking fuel into the intake flooding the engine. Try holding the gas pedal to the floor when u try to start it warn. Does it start faster/better? Kim
