Old fart issues...

My wife said she thinks I am going deaf.

It's really just selective hearing.
I know my hearing has gotten way better since
not working construction, much at all now
or not driving uncorked racecars, or shooting 100rds every weekend,
anywhere near, like I used to

I have too,
done that pretty much, pretend to 'ignore people', when I didn't want to interact
or act like I didn't hear them, because I didn't want to answer them...

Kids bugging me, with stupid kid ****, while I was out in the garage...

when I've had good or excellent hearing, most all my life
always took care of my hearing, wore ear protection a lot
when outside the racecar or while plinking

I ask my dad all the time, can you hear that ---- ?
he usually responds like, what ---- ?
never mind

Don't know if you have crickets where you are but my tinnitus but that's what I hear. If you don't think about it just back ground noise. Where I worked Very noisy.

I just got back from a 520-mile R/T picking up a sweet new seat for my non-Mopar project - a 1987 Chevy R10 LWB pickup. My son rode with, for companionship and helping put me at ease on a nice Saturday drive to the Oklahoma panhandle. Got home, felt great, and worked on the Chevy for a bit. Hydration is helping.

A while back, when my COPD Breathing issues started, I would cough and hack like no tomorrow and couldn't catch my breath!!! 69a100 can vouch for that!!! We were out in the garage hanging out after giving out candy for Halloween and I had just made a cocktail when an attack hit me and it was a doozy!!! In a panic, I stood up and the next thing I remember is I'm on the floor bleeding like a stuck Pig from my nose and mouth and saying WTF JUST HAPPENED??? It appears that I blanked out momentarily due to a lack of O2. I face-planted on the concrete floor and broke my nose in 3 places. The result was a 2nd nose job to fix it and the ENT Specialist said I better not do it again as I would have to live with it due to the previous surgery and now this one. Nothing to repair as most of the cartilage had been removed to correct a deviated septum from the first nose job. So now, I am much more cautious when it comes to getting up quickly and having the same result. Oh...and my BP Meds are doing their job too so that is an added bonus. Still though with my breathing issues, I run out of gas a lot quicker and at times lose my breath as if I just ran a marathon so I have to slow down and catch it again. I don't mind getting older as I am enjoying it for the most part. It's just the damn vessel I reside in is breaking down faster than I would like. As the saying goes, "It Ain't The Fall That Gets You...IT'S THE SUDDEN STOP!!!"...cr8crshr/Bill :usflag: :usflag: :usflag:

I always had the radio on growing up as the silence in the house would just drive me nuts, now it's to drown out the dam tinnitus that driving me nuts!

Gravity has not been my friend lately, to be sure. But, we are at an agreement, of sorts. Let me fall into bed or my recliner, I'll let you do that with me. Otherwise, let me stand and walk without you, Mister Gravity, trying to pull me down into an involuntary horizontal, face-down position. And, let me get up from the creeper! I hate being stuck.

@Fran Blacker I have tinnitus from decades of heavy metal and shooting literally hundreds of thousands of rounds. I have the typical ringing in my ears but also a clicking sound. Hard to describe but it’s sort of a random thing that almost sounds like drops of water on a hard surface. Thought that I was the only one until you mentioned crickets…

Same here.....but it was mostly from late 60's early 70's and beyond rock and roll, drag racing, guns and more rock and roll and more guns then working at a steel mill then a refinery and the list goes on. My audiogram test when I first went into the military was at the top of the chart and more but these days, it's more in the lower middle or worse....

I have fairly good hearing in the low and mid ranges, not so good at the higher pitches. Not so good for a guy that hunts elk to feed his family. The elk will be whistling and everyone else hears them but me.
And loud noises now are terribly distorted and ragged sounding.
But I have to laugh at TV cop shows where every week they have a shootout indoors or in an enclosed alley. You only have to fire a .45 or an AR in a house once to vow to never do THAT again.

I don't want to fire any type of fire arm without hearing protection no matter where I am!

Tripped over a hose in my driveway several years ago and went down on my left shoulder and tore my rotator cuff. I have been fighting with type two diabetes for several years and no matter what I do I can’t get my glucose below 160, every day is a battle.

I was diagnosed with the same about 3 years ago. Have you been prescribed any medications?

Metformin which gives me the shits 4 or 5 times till I’m empty. You really have to think about your day before taking that pill.

That's what I am taking too. Has gotten my A1C down quite a bit but the glucose depends upon what I eat. If I'm good about my diet I can get to 100-120. Too many carbs and I'm 150+.
Good luck!

I also listen to the radio a lot but sometimes it just gets on my nerves....at least the station I listen to most of the time doesn't have commercials and that is the reason why I DVR everything I watch on TV.
