On this day in history

Or, "I cream on Jeannie" as we used to say. Thanks for the memory. Hope I haven't ruined yours.

Wow, 55 years ago. I had graduated HS in june, was working full time in Manhattan, attending Bronx CC in the evening, getting ready for drivers license test,and trying to decide what to do about military service. I'm sure I didn't see the first episode that night but managed to see some of them thru the years. She certainly was easy to look at. By the way, a year later I was a sailor in the USN. One of the best decisions I ever made.

Yep, I have the whole series on disc. That first season was shot in black and white, it's been colorized since then.

Larry Hagman also played his part beautifully - as he also did on Dallas as such a different character. I get a kick out of reading stories, as I come across them, about actors who were initially desired or selected to play lead parts in various shows or movies. Some declined, or were under contract prohibiting it. If I remember this show, James Stacy was supposed to play Hagman's role; don't recall why he didn't. Ma Kettle was supposed to be playing the part of Jeannie; but she declined the role.
(I'm bullshitting looking for a chuckle...lol). Only those ancient enough might remember Ma Kettle.

She was quite the manicurist on Andy Griffith show before that.

Groucho used to advertise DeSoto's on his show - quick clue on how long ago that was...

Age is ******* cruel and those who try to turn back the clock with plastic surgery? Well I'd say there are two famous women that come to mind who seem, I say seem, to defy the odds; but then not sure what they actually look like before the make up and diluted camera lights. I still look pretty good in candle light - if the candle is pretty well spent...lol

Is poetry allowed on this site? Here goes anyway:

Gather ye rose-buds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today
Tomorrow will be dying.

By Robert Herrick (published around 1648).

I think of that poem often, now that for me there is much more in the rear view mirror than looking out the windshield.
