Thanks, it's alittle over kill. But luckily it has a very mild hyd cam but still made over 600hp/tq. I'll post the details later.

A little 498 ! Mine is only a 493 and ours a small strokers by todays standards. It looks great and I use a Dynamic converter also. Very nice. Ron

Real nice 69!! Hope you have a lot of fun with your new 498..

LMAO love the placement of it hehe, on the backseat

Haha I know, This was the 3rd engine we have stuck in the van surprisingly they slide right in but one of these days I need to get a truck. Lol

Thanks Ron, yea not a big fan of 60 over but it's a 66' block so I figured it was thick enough. it's amazing that nearly 500ci is small but with these 600+ mega blocks I can see why.

very cool, very nice, looks like LOTS O' FUN.....

Oh it does, I can't wait to get that thing running. Just gotta decide on a carb, headers, converter and driveshaft. Then that beast will be tearing up the streets.

What size converter and rear gears would you guys suggest for this combo? It is a street car but rarely sees speeds over 55mph. I was thinking about keeping the 2.73's in it, whach ya think? :eusa_doh:

haha no I'm only kidding. it has 2.73 gears right now... I was thinking of going with at least 3.91 maybe 4.10? I just measured my tire height and it's only 24.5" (225/60/15) but I would like to get something a little taller.

IMHO the 2.73:1 gears would be a real low end, stop light to stop light performance killer, especially under 60 mph, a 3.73:1 is great overall compromise for street & occasional strip performance, then either a 3.91:1 or 4.10:1, if you don't care about freeway usage or fuel mileage, with a 27"-28" tall tire {like a 275/60/15 or taller}, either would be fine, even at freeway speeds, a mild hydr. camshaft ?? what mild camshaft ??, your specific camshaft & gears, will help make a big determination for your Converter Stall Speed, the steeper the gear or the more the camshaft, the more converter stall speed you can/should use, with a 3.73:1 gear something like a 2500-2800+ stall or more {I ran a 3800rpm stall speed, with a set of 3.73:1 gears & 28"+ rear tires, street driven, with no trans/converter issues, with a deep pan & extra trans-cooler added in-line} for a 4.10 I would say use like a 3000-3500+ stall or more, for street usage mainly, higher if you want harder launches & strip performance.... It all depends on how you want to use the car & if you want the best performance, out of that specific combo...

even a 3.23:1 or 3.55:1 gear would be much better

between the 3.73:1 & the 3.91:1 &/or the 3.91:1 & the 4.10:1 not much, but between the 3.73:1 & the 4.10:1 gears is a pretty big step, You will get big time torque multiplication when you start getting into the 4.10:1 & steeper gears, it will make a heavy car move "much easier" {you don't want to go too steep of gears, with a camshaft that's only intended on spinning around 6000 rpm, it will lay down big time on the big end &/or in high gear}, the steeper gears like the 4.10's are better especially in the first 60ft -330ft {1st & 2nd gear} of the track, that's were allot of ET is made-up, the 3.73's will work very well, you will have a little slower time in the 60ft-330ft area, but better mid track 120ft-660ft {2nd gear} & Top End MPH, much better for a street/strip combo car, especially with the right converter & cooler, the correct camshaft & a 498ci torque monster engine, in a heavy B-Body 60's-70's car... like I said before the 3.73:1 is a great compromise, kind of the best of both worlds... Good luck

Very cool. You will love it. Under my hood sits a 512. I used a 400 instead of a 440. I am making close to the same power as you. Very good combo.

Looks like you are running an upgraded Nippondenso alternator as well? What amp? Mine is a 114 amp I believe. It is a slick and clean setup I think?

Thanks guys I appreciate it, Haven't been around turned 21 last week... I'm sure you know how that goes haha. I'll have to sit down and decide on gears.. 3.91 may be the way I go.
I have a couple questions seeing as this engine should put my car into the 10's what kind of requirements am I going to need to do to be nhra legal?
Off the top of my head I know I'm going to need a 6 point cage, harness, drive shaft safety loop, aftermarket axles, clothing, anything else?
