Hello all, I just wanted your guys opinions on the condition of the hood on my 69 RR. The shop doing the body work want me to buy a new AMD repro but I don't like the idea for a few reasons. I want to keep as much original steel on the car and I know AMD panels are not always accurate. Do you think it's in too bad condition to not bother with? I am not sold its that bad. Thanks. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

In my opinion these pictures don't show anything to run away from and I would be concerned if my body shop was afraid of it.

They may not be afraid of repairing it but it will most certainly cost you significantly more than the price of a replacement hood.

If it doesn't, then be afraid.

I don't think there is much wrong with it, have them fix it and make sure the hinge holes are right.

In my opinion, the photos show the areas where the hood pins are located being low. Hoods are very "flimsy" and you can't do alot with them as far as

straightening. If you use "Bondo" on a horizontal surface like a hood that gets beat on by the sun and also a heat source underneath, you're asking for trouble.

I would try and find a used hood, even if I had to pay close to what the AMD piece cost. I like the way factory stuff fits! AMD doors and fenders together on

the same vehicle look terrible at the top front areas, but it's all we've got! Good luck with your project!

Rust?

Is there any rust on the underside of the hood? From what I see on the top side , any good body shop could straighten that out and if prepped right, should hold for years. I have a racer that dad built in 1962 and it still has the original filler in it.

It's totally rust free and the car does have the N96 air grabber option. If I got a new hood I would have to make sure the ductwork gets mounted in the correct spot. The AMD quarters I got were good but I know their fenders are somewhat suspect, I get a feeling a repro hood might be off from the original. I suppose if I could find a good used hood would be an option but it could end up no better than what I have now.

That looks much better than many I have seen. I believe they should be able to make the proper repairs as long as the webbing underneath is still good.
