I have a chance to get a NIB Street fighter trans from 2022 for $1500 from a buddy that went to 4spd instead. It's a killer deal but, are these things reliable?? Older reviews don't look good so, curious if anything has changed etc. Or, would rebuilding the whooped trans (slips 2nd to 3rd) be more "reliable". Nothing will be giving or taking more than 450hp at the end of the day, crusing, some strip use on the weekends. 1500 is my max budget, 71 b body with 3.55's TIA

If $1500 is your max budget, I say you better get it. A&A or any other will likely be more than your budget and you can't build it for less than $1500 starting with nothing now a days.

OR,,,, rebuild yourself. Save a $1000.

you can rebuild for half that, but if you get the street fighter, now you have two transmissions! 2 is 1, 1 is none :)

Thats like jumping from the pot into the fire.
Lol, well I guess that depends on who you ask. I'll look into it. If I don't like what I find of course I'll consider A&A. You guys have me wanting to do it myself at this point. Everyone seems to agree if you can put an engine together and or degree a cam, a 727 rebuild should be a weekend thing, installed

With a manual for 727 trans rebuild, you can do it. Just pay attention to given specs. I've done many.

I have Carl's book. Maybe I'll just go over it and learn something along the way, right!?

Well, you need a couple kinda specialized tools, but nothing outlandish. A trans book and FSM is essential. Plus, numerous members on here can help. I did a few before the internet and worked out great.

I believe it actually shows alternative ways to do it w/o the special tools

Rebuild it yourself! If you want you can put a shift kit in it, but parts are not expensive for the
clutches, plates, gaskets and thrust washers. John Cope has the complete rebuild kits for not
alot of moola, and if you need some extras he's got em. Save yourself some money.

From what I have seen the TCI transmissions are just basically stock reman transmissions with a TCI Decal applied on the bellhousing. Nothing in them to make it worth the $1500. As mentioned. Less expensive and better quality parts from many other sources.

FWIW I bought a street fighter trans probably around 2000 or so and put behind my 496 in a heavy C body. Took a beating and was still in the car when I sold it in 2020 or so.

I actually just called this guy today to ask a few simple questions. Less than a 2min call. The guy is a complete ******* tool and if he was talking to me like he did on the phone in person, I would've slapped him like a bitch. I'll never use ANYTHING he sells. That guy can SUCK it!
