Original. floor shift console question

I recently picked an original floor shift console and it has two wire tie loops on each side, I was wondering what these were used for? I also need to replace one it looks like it was chewed on by a dog. Lol. I've never seen one like this and never knew that they even existed until now. The guy I got it from said that they are usually missing. Thanks.

I tried to post the pic but I seem to be having an upload issue ,it's a console that will fit a 71 b body with a slap stick,i'll try to do the upload again.
