Hi All,

Hoping to get my 68 Coronet road worthied tomorrow (certificate that allows it to be licensed here) but I need to get my parking brake working. it is engaging and holding, but the latch catch isn't clicking into engage.

I haven't ripped into it yet, but given the tight time line, I was hoping to get some advise / pearls of wisdom for FBBO. Any leads?

PS I have searched, about to have a look over the manual in my break.

Cheer!

Handle return spring has slipped through the front bushing or the very small internal spring that keeps the lever to the teeth is broken/missing. More than likely the latter one

Thanks Mate, Turns out it was the first one. The PO had put zip ties on it to hold it back, I didn't realize and they had broken through (unsurprisingly!). I fixed it up with a split washer, opened it up, then closed it in place. Works well.

Thanks for the help

Yup sure did, at considerable expense but screw it, its only money! Got a few things to finish cleaning up and I'm good to get it on road. Then I need to finish the 100 little things that pop up and a few trim pieces... Getting there!

I hear that. Sorry you had a bad time. Guess it goes with the program.

I learned the hard way, as usual. First car 63 Sport Fury w/727, that started slipping in all gears. Then, was no kind of mechanic, so took it to a tranny shop. Guess for a dumb 17 year old, flat lucked out. Of course, all it needed was band adjusting, and the guy working on it was glad to show me what it was all about. Ha! Then, he winked, saying would I like it to shift even better? Duh. Did the quarter turn bit, and locked it down.

After I left, got to thinking...hell, I could have done that! Been there ever since.

Yeah I hear ya. Call it arrogance, but I do the same. I have done everything on this car except the exterior paint, which is just too time consuming so I'm happy to farm that work out! Coming from manual imports, there's been a fair bit the 'Net has taught me.

First time I've rebuilt a Dif and first time to tune a carb and distributor (still fine tuning this part!) plus the usual 'new make' learning. If I had more time, I definitely would have cracked into the box to work out whats going on. Once I'm set up in the new house properly, I still will as I ended up replacing it rather then roll the dice with another crap trans shop. The wife wants me to sell it as soon as its fixed to cover some of the cost, but I;m thinking of holding onto it for the 27 Dodge I have in parts... after building the 'Net I've got a lot of the pieces I need to get it started! Ha!

Sell the car??? Or, you could sell the ..... Noooo...(I did not say that!)

Haha Nah not the car, she wants me to sell the gearbox once I fix it. Luckily she likes the car. In fact, she was the first to drive it. Only about 5 meters reversing it down the driveway, scared sh!tless the whole way! but its still the first movement. She says she's too scared to drive it on the road, but I'll get her there!
