Penske 21015 dwell tach

Does anybody have one of these? My buddy picked one up for five bucks but it needs a Battery. Can anybody let me know what type of battery it uses and which way the battery is oriented in the holder?

The battery holder is for an AA he thinks, but online someone said it uses a 4.5 v battery

I also think a 4.5 V battery with the approximate size and shape of an AA battery is weird. Unfortunately, the picture he sent me of the battery holder doesn’t help much.

I remember 4.5V camera batteries back in the day. New York city still has tradition camera shops. Perhaps try them for a source? A 9V battery, and a LM7805 would work here.

Nice find, kiwi. The size of the 4.5 v battery is .64 X 1.94. An AA is .57 X 1.99. So being almost identical in size, means one would fit in the others holder. The previous owner probably screwed up when replacing the battery.
