OK! So its not just me...
Of course, I saw the Plymouth ad way before I saw the King Crimson cover, so I thought that they stole the idea from Plymouth...which they may well have. Wonder when that as was first published nationally?

That King Crimson album was from 1969 so the time frame is right. But it wasn't the same artist, Barry Godber (the album artist) hadn't done any other artwork for anyone else. And he died quite young a few months after the record was released.

Yes, both from 69, but I wonder which actually appeared first... Curious if one might have inspired the other (?)

Hard to tell, we can't ask him. But Barry was drawing his own face as seen in the mirror for the album artwork.
