Just thought I'd share my experience restoring these, or for anyone considering replacing a bulb this might be useful. There is a stud at the front of the housing and a screw securing the rear. How the stud was secured to the fender remained a mystery until I ran across 3/16" tubular speed nuts. Very clever!

The speed nuts and bulbs are available on ebay pretty cheap. Second picture down, you don't want to remove the bottom plate unless replacing the amber lens. Chances are the screw-on sockets (4th pic down) will not behave nicely when unscrewing due to rust but I got lucky with some wd-40.
I used small dabs of dielectric grease and anti-seize to keep moisture from doing future damage. The housing must be well grounded, so a combination of the speed nut and rear screw should do the trick.
