hey - need some opinions.last night i was working on my car adjusting on the carb when i had this bright idea of driving around the block to see how it ran.here is where the dumbass kicks in.the air cleaner
was off as i came around the corner to my house the throttle started acting like it was stuck open.shut car off and popped the hood.the cork gasket that the cleaner sets on had blown up to top of carb and was stuck down into top of carb.pulled the gasket out and it was missing about 1 1/2 inches.i dont know if it went into motor or just got cut up by the butterfly and fell off.car seems to be running fine.took off carb and intake dont see anything.if it did get into a cylinder what would it do?

It would probably get pulled into a cylinder and get burned up and spit out the other end. I wouldn't worry about it, just another one of those learning moments that you tuck away with the rest of them.

thanks Red.makes me feel better.had a little trouble sleeping last night.i could just see a motor tear down in my future

Did the same thing a month ago (after seafoaming), my rear carb sucked in my gasket and stuck at about 2500 rpm when I let off the throtle, pulled off the road and luckily it was hanging on by the stud and all there. first and last time for that mistake.

Mine are thick rubber gaskets I would have thought it would do some damage for sure if it got sucked in especially at the rpms that I was at (over 5000).

I had a similar thing happen to me. I had the 71 out with the air grabber open - didn't have the air cleaner on because I hadn't yet gotten the one that would fit under the hood. Saw somethin get sucked up into the air grabber - but didn't know if it was a rag, leaf or a bird. Motor seemed fine, but when I got back home, I opened up the hood - turns out it was a Prius....:icon_evil:

that hybrid pos could'nt get out of the way fast enough huh?

Had that happen at the gas station with powerwagon. Drove in, shut down, wouldn't start lifted hood, had another guy turn it over and gas shot straight up almost hitting the hood, good thing it didnt start and get to the headers cuz that would have burned to the ground. Same thing as u, gasket broke in the bowl, blocked the flow. New carb in parking lot and drove home. Scary how bad that could have gone. Learning lesson for me.
