Is pinning a cracked block acceptable to get ready for resale? I have a 440 that was just rebuilt and the machinist never checked for cracks, low and behold I had a crack on both sides in the rear of the block. It was bored 40 over and decked with new cam bearings. Is worth being repaired by pinning to resale? Thanks for your opinions in advance.

Sorry fellow noresman but I would find a replacement. Its not worth the risk to me. my .02 cents worth. good luck!

I had one done 7 years ago without no problems. Make sure the shop doing it has done it before. This procedure has been used for many years. w
It might make people think about it for resale though.

I have done repairs with "Lock-N-Stitch", and have had no problems.

Lock and stitch is a proven repair method and Goodson has all the stuff you need to do the job.

There is a place up near Des Moines Iowa who does this on a daily basis . has for years, and you can't tell by looking at it from the outside when they are done..............................MO

i buy motors/cars all the time and the brutal truth is id never buy a cracked block regardless of who or how it was repaired.
sounds even worse when you say Both sides of the block at the rear...something went seriously wrong there...now its a hand grenade.
just my opinion,id toss it or make a table out of it.

Just find another block and get it punched out the same then just move all your rebuilt stuff to the new block.

I wouldn't buy a block with a crack that's been repaired especially a high hp big block .and you have two cracks I deff would stay clear of it unless it's free or very cheap and close by ,at least with the switch ing parts to a diff block you'll get more money back I'm sure someone by you has a spair 440 block laying around that's unwanted .
Hell if you were closer to me I'd give you one of the blocks I got out back

I used to know a guy that had it done to his numbers matching HEMI roadrunner. The repair shop is TOP notch and it seemed to work fine. I'm sure when the car gets sold he will NOT tell the buyer it was done!!:blob1:

It all depends on the reason for the crack. If it is a water jacket that cracked due to a freeze, it can probably be repaired. If it is
in a "Structural Area", then I would think not. Everyone will be leary of a cracked block no matter where it is. I have repaired freeze
cracks before, and they never leaked. I use a T.I.G. filler rod and a pre-heat. I have seen equipment parts "Pinned" and they are O.K.,
but there is no strength in the repair.

thanks, you done helped me make up my mind. Appreciate the info.
