I have a 72 setallite sebring plus... a clone road runner.
Has 440 mag in it... about 3 months ago, my brother took it for a spin, came back and alternator went kaboom... After I replaced the alternator (had to loosen the distributor so I messed up the timing), won't start...back fired alot and carb threw flames... worked on it and it started... but now it won't start... the spark plugs won't even give a park...

tested the msd 6a box by bridging it and it sparts through the coil... can someone help me give some pointers...

Will really really appreciate it

About all I can say is something else electrical may have caused the alternator to go or it took something else with it. The distributor may have gotten fried. Did you pull it or just loosen it?

Do you have a mallory unilite distribution - if so you may have fried the distributor. See the mallory website for checking it.

More details on your setup would be helpfull.

I would put it all together and start taking voltage reading at all of the standard locations to make sure your wiring is in good shape and you don't have any burned out wires then start testing parts.

Resistor block (should have contunity and low resistance)
Voltage regulator (replacing with new is the easist - keep reciept, if its not the problem then take it back)
Distributor and control module (a local tuner should be able to test it for you)
Coil ( http://autorepair.about.com/od/troubleshooting/ss/coil-test-ohm.htm )

If you unsure about the cars timing turn the motor to top dead center and make sure the rotor is pointing to the #1 spark plug wire. If you want you can also pull the #1 plug and make sure the piston is all the way to the top (I use a coat hanger to feel for the piston). If you did not pull the distributor all the way out there is no reason to believe its 180 out. set you timing mark to around 12 and adjust the distributor to point to the #1 wire again. If you have spark your motor should fire.

If you have a fuel problem just spray some wd40 over the top of the carb while you try to start it. If it lacks fuel it will try to start. I find this safer than pouring gas all over the place.

Without more info this is the best I can do.
