New 741 gears are much harder to find than 742 gears, and much fewer ratios and manufacturers.
741 has a much undeserved reputation as the weakest.
Most aftermarket gears are for 742/489 cases.

Here is a photo of the pinions and bearings. Look at the size dofference on both bearings. 741 and 489 use same pinion seal, 742 seal has a larger outer diameter because the bearing race is so much larger.

In my experience the 741 is getting harder and harder to find gears for
For example my recent attempt to rebuild my 741 with a 3.91 gear
We were unable to find a 3.91 gear to fit the 741 case
It is available for the 742 & 489 case
We ended up going with a 489 case so that I could stay with the 3.91 gear
Harder to find gears or the ratio you want? Will 1/10 spline from a 742 fit at 7:41?
