wondering if anyone else had issues with the install of classic auto air, with the fan hitting off the compressor. The engine is a 440 in a 69 roadrunner. The water pump spacer is 1 3/8” and the supplied spacer with the kit is 3/8 “. The other issue I’m having is the compressor is on top of the water temperature senor, I’m thinking of drilling and tapping the other side of the water pump housing like aot of other engines seem to have. Any input would be appreciated. For those of you who have used classic auto air, I wonder is the spacer they gave me incorrect? Thanks

I have the same system in my 69 Charger, except mine does not use the idler that you show. Also my water pump and alternator pulleys are different. I recently changed to electric fans, but had the clutch fan setup on it at first and I did not have any interference issues. My a/c belt adjustment is with the alternator.

And my sensor is also under the compressor, but there is room for it.

Thanks, for the input. Did you have any issues with your coolant temperature sensor as you can see mine is under the compressor and no room to plug in to wire

I have a 69 Sat which came with factory air. I used the classic air system and did not have any of the issues you describe. Could a AC car have a different water pump?

The kit for a non factory ac car is slightly different, perhaps that’s the issue, the fan spacing is the biggest issue. Tks

Another thought is that water pump pulley. Are there different ones that would put the fan more forward? My engine is apart but if I can find pictures I will let you know. In my installation I had a problem with the rear bracket that attaches the compressor to a intake manifold bolt. It would not let the compressor sit level. I had to fab a new bracket.

Yes I thought about the water pump pulley as well but it lines up with the alternator now so I can’t change that. I’m guessing that either my factory spacer or the one provided by classic auto air needs to be changed. Those of you using the classic kit with factory air cars, did they provide a spacer that was needed to be used?

No spacer with my kit

what if you change alternator pulley to a double groove? Would that allow you to line up the compressor and crank and alternator and use a matched belt set as I did? Then you could use that idler/tensioner for the water pump?

No spacer in my kit. This has to have something to do with your car not being a original AC car. Forgive me if you already did this, but did you call there tech department. I called a few times and I found them to be helpful.
Now for the embarrassing part. Im not a young guy and Im up to a 3.75 reading glasses. Maybe it was welding for 40 years but thats my excuse LOL. I couldn't get heat inside the car after I installed there system. I tried everything, I removed heater hoses, checked the water pump outlet volume, checked the water valve was working, you name it I did it. I called the tech several times and one day, the tech asked me if I took out the rubber plugs in the heater box tubes. What plugs I thought. Sure enough I pulled the heater hoses off and guess what I found? The plugs were black and fit nice and tight into the tubing ends. I needed a plier to pull them out. The tech told me don't fret as I wasn't the first guy this happened to. Good luck and keep us informed

This still won’t work as the problem is that the compressor is out past the other belts and I need to get the fan out further

Haha that’s a good one, easy enough to happen to anyone. I will call them tomorrow. I just got a bigger spacer and a clutch fan, I going to play around with different options

that’s

So it appears that the A/C kit is intended for a clutch fan. I got a clutch fan and it clears, the fan is a 20 inch, so I will have to source the correct 18.5 inch
