Looking for 350, 400, or 455 Pontiac V8 to replace the Pontiac 301 in my 1979 Buick LeSabre Restomod cruiser. Whatcha got?

What rear axle was in that 140 hp. car and will it handle a 455? Buick 350 and Oldsmobile 403 were optional when new, if you want to retain factory specs.

I have a 403 olds and th350 transmission that came out of a 1980 TA, Supposedly built but I have no idea.

I can make you one hell of a deal on. I know the engine runs. But not too sure on the transmission.

It's a 7.5" around 2.41 ratio. I asked about 350/400/455 just to see if anything was out there. The pontiac blocks and heads will fit best with the current A/C, cooling, and engine mounts. I know it won't be an original configuration - I'll set the 301 in a corner for that. It's an ultra clean old car and I just want a little more performance. The ideal engine would be a pontiac 350 or 400 with around 9:1 compression and 250 - 260 hp. The current 350 trans and rear end can handle that.

@cosgig, you are in Pinckney. Any leads on Pontiacs?

I am in Pinckney, and my next door neighbor is a big GTO guy. Now, I was just looking at a 66 Tempest 2 door on marketplace, it was not far from me, and the guy was giving it away for free. He needed it gone asap, not sure if it’s still available or not. But yea, I also know of a few other pontiacs that are available, or could be.

I see Bob is in Pinckney, I’ll reach out to him through PM and maybe we can get together and get him what he needs.

Oops, sorry. I should have made that a bit more clear. Thanks!

It's a good idea but that used a different block. I'd have to find a complete motor.
Are you wanting to put it back to original some day? If not, have fun and if it detonates, look for that 455. The factory may have sourced the premium parts as they knew the TA was likely to see severe duty like the Bandit.

Don't know how they hold up, but there are turbo kits on the internet that are affordable. The attraction for me would be not having to swap motors. (at least until I over did it)
