Portable (instant) Garages

at least you have the buggy covered
i spied a 'c' body convertible down the street, bare to the elements.
i believe you would want a floor under her, the dirt/clay here isnt good for her (moisture)
whatever you decide, drop a dime, gimme a ring, i'll give you a hand

Or maybe buy a house with a real garage you cheapskate.

Temporary is better than none at all !!

BUT;
IMO I'd recommend a more permanent structure, enclosed as much as possible,
it's not as cheap way to go but far better way to go...

put down some concrete too, if nothing else you have more parking places...

good luck either way you chose MarPar/Mario

very true, Buds/Sir Lord Budnicks :icon_salut:

it's not so much the cost or anything-I would love another permanent structure; it's the possibility of me having to take the damn thing down cuz one of the neighbors opens their big yap to the city--i dont think they will, but you always have to guard against the downside.

See, I dont have much space in my little slice of Republican heaven here in Lombard, ILL :unitedstates: (balanced budget 5 years in a row now WITH a healthy surplus which they save for unforeseen circumstances), and they don't allow you to have more than 50% of your land "building." maximum is 50% green, 50% buildings.

****, I would have doubled the size of my garage a long-*** time ago if I didn't have that restriction!! lol

soooooooo it has to be the best semi-permanent I can make it.

pics...(the pavers will be removed of course)

****! build it here! on the other side of town, the yard is 280' deep

no where as big, as some here have.
but, in an argument with the local taxing authority............ i have an 'excess' of land.
wtf. i had 15 'like' comparisons. they were armed with 20
i lost the appeal. i'm moving when i can pull the pin

MarPar generally anything bigger than 120sqft 10x12 footprint, would need a permit too,
even in most places, I know for a fact it's law here, even when they're a temporary structure...

you neighbors could still be a dick even with a temp. structure too,
it's a very litigious society today too, just be careful, cover your ***...

Possibly you can get a variance "sometimes too", just spit-balling...

you usually have to have a setback of 12ft from the property line @ a min.
you need to have a in scale plot & elevations plan, of the property your installing it on

VersaTube Building pre-engineered systems {if you have them in your area}
is nice too, box frame wind rated & load rated too...
I have one in my back yard, also on the side of my house for the Dually to park under...
I had to get permission from al my neighbors, to put the thing up...
I will close it in someday too, I blew off the building dept. after they told me $2000
just to file a variance, let alone all the permit fees were like $712 just for a
freestanding structure
Maybe/probably even more fees in Chicago Ill. area too,
I'm out in the sticks sort of, it's still Calif. & we have high costs for
anything building/permit's wise...

Maybe erect something behind the garage/house

TuffShed {not ToughShed sorry} also had some reasonably priced quicky units too
{if you have them in your area}

neither are going to be $1000 or less ever thou

Mines 42 x 28 a boat & an RV area stored under it, might be my future shop someday...

I've done allot of these types of deals for dealerships too,
{I use to do tent sale setups, for a bunch of dealerships} the cloth based ones suck &
they won't stand up-to high wind & especially heavy snow loads...
I wouldn't recommend any of them...
Especially the ones less than $5k, that are round tube & a canvas...

I'm actually kinda in the same boat as you, I wanted to build a 2 car garage behind my existing 2 car garage, tie it together and make it look like it was always there.
Well since I already have a couple of pretty large sheds the city won't let me do it unless I expand my living space, but I don't want a bigger house, I want a bigger garage.
We have over an acre and plenty of room and I am pissed, the wife dose not want to move so two car garage it is...........for now.
Hope you find a good solution but I would stay away from those temp shelters.

I get two years out of the tarp part(FLA). Check out the tube wall thickness of tent you buy. Before you assemble it spray the inside of the tube ends with rustoliem professional. Also add four cables on the end sections to stiffen the frame(triangulate the ends to middle poles). I used coated cloths line wire. My frame is 6 years old now looks like new. I purchased two gallons of the rubberized roof paint, but put it on the campers. Think that would add a lot of life to the tarp... Also added large zip ties loose over the bungy ties supplied. the zips have come into play when the winds got over 40( I put two 3" tapcons on each base). 10'x20' Eight Post from shelter logic. look for discount codes online.DSC00045.jpg

Last horror story to deff finish this off I was moving cars around and the 74 sunroof car had to stay outside a few days . Well I got this tent from harbor freight and set it up looked good in the middle of the night the wind came threw ripped the tent Parr (anchor s stayed in the ground) picked the whole thing up and dropped it all right on the car ,thankfully it only damaged the paint in the eng bay (witch was coming off again)
So I wouldn't touch them but my father in law has his boat under one and it's been there for 4 years he attached the cover with a bungee cord all around so the wind comes threw and it moves a bit and flops back into place so to each his own I won't trust them I ordered a 12x20 shed with a huge door used 3k installed leveled I stuck a winch in it and my back burner cars get inside storage!
Best 3 k I ever spent I snuck it in 4 am the city didn't notice

Got a use for an enclosed trailer? I know they are not exactly cheap but if you can find a decent one for a good price, you can usually get your money back when it's time to sell. I got a killer deal on a Forest River 24 footer a couple of years ago after moving out of my storage building. The money I was paying for storage paid for the trailer and the best part about it is I can move it whenever I need to and there's no taxes paid so long as I leave the wheels on it. So far no one has said anything about it and if they do, I'll just move it behind my shop. As it is, it's off to the side and up front but it's still 120' away from the road. Unless you are looking, it not real noticeable since it's the same color as the shop is. I keep a car inside along with several parts and lawn equipment. Here's a shot of mine taken from about 1/2 up the drive.....

And yeah, that little tree hides it pretty well....wish someone would come and get it.

MarPar/Mario sorry it's IIRC TuffShed not Toughshed...LOL

The big used {especially IF you can get it cheap} enclosed car hauler
is a great idea too, kill 2 bird with one stone, storage & something to tow/haul in too...

The only sure way to use a portable garage and not have to worry about weather, wind etc. causing collapses and damage to a vehicle is my way!!!
Here is my portable garage...or should I say Paint Booth???:headbang:

I like this idea for a paint booth but man, I hope you guys don't blow up your beautiful mopars (and yourself) by igniting paint vapours. it's pretty risky using lights, particularly hot halogens and various fans and blowers in these spaces.
