Possible move to Texas.

I lived in Dallas TX until I was 13, we then moved to San Diego and finally when I was 20 I moved to western WA.

In October, two of our children and their families moved from here to New Braunfels TX (near San Antonio). They bought 6 acres with house and are building a second house on it.

My wife and I are now in our mid 60s. I’m nearing retirement and the kids are pressuring us to move there.

I hated the humidity and bugs in the Dallas area. On the other I am getting tired of the rain we get here. The weather here is beautiful from May to October.

Any of you guys live or lived in the area of TX the kids moved too? What are your pros and cons for this old car guy?

Hope you like heat. I can't handle it myself. It's been in the 60's here. I think today was 70. Humidity was 6!!!!! I didn't think it could go that low.

I live in WI so I can't help you with the weather.
As a car guy, I know you have your fair share of cars and parts that are in decent shape in the corner of the country, but in the south they have stuff laying around that makes a Wisconsinite like me drool.

That stuff though matters, but not as much as how much you want to see your kids and how much they want to see you. House next door? Will you be the unpaid baby sitter? Something to consider.
Personally, I would have moved out of WI a long while ago but all the family is here on both my side and for my wife, and the way we were raised that is a top priority. If my kids moved that far away i know we would be packing up to. But that's just me, your situation might be different.

Good news is you don’t have to worry about hurricanes, tornadoes average about one a year near San Antonio. I went to basic training in San Antonio.

My wife and I vacationed there about 40 years ago. We loved it. However, the population was much less than today.

Humidity and bugs in DFW ? HUH ? You're talking all of Florida, along with the Chesapeake bay area. If not DFW, then, The hills west of Austin.

I’m in Weatherford which is west of Fort Worth by 45 minutes. This past summer wasn’t as hot and the humidity wasn’t here as much either.

New Braunfels is a great place. Amazing food, pleasant folks, and close to Gruene. The Gristmill has the best green beans I’ve ever eaten. Sounds odd…but they are amazing.

That’s funny, we are moving to New Braunfels early next year. My wife is from San Antonio and we are moving back there as soon as my project in Germany is finished. She is arriving there on 7th January.
