Possible move to Texas.

It’s almost always hotter there during summer compared to my area, like majorly different and it’s only 50 or so miles away. I don’t want to relocate but I would prefer that SJ weather.

My mother who passed away last spring always said I should never have left San Diego. Maybe so.

We are a couple years away from paying off our home. I’m thinking the best route might be to build one of those “mother in law” apartment with a garage and spend the spring and fall months down there and the summer and winter in WA. There’s nothing more beautiful than the summer in the PNW.

Simpler living in the show me state, Missouri. Not perfect, can be humid, can be cold, but not bad. Middle of the country, so I can keep all of you as a buffer around me... LOL

Turns out my pain specialist who I’ve known for 20 years grew up near New Braunfels “NB” and left to go to college. When I told him about the kids moving there and how they wanted us down there, he just said I hope you like extreme heat. He also went off on the winter downpours and flooding of the rivers. After talking about it for 15 minutes or so, he said after a couple years, they will all be saying you were right in not wanting to go.

My wife has the rare autoimmune disease Diffuse Scleroderma which hardens skin. Humidity is not good for these people, it can be deadly. As I said I was in the DFW, Irving to be specific, and the humidity was terrible at times.

What is the comparison of the humidity between DFW and NB. I’ve read it is less of an issue in the Hill Country.

If it's humidity, why not Arizona, then ?

I have only passed through Texas on the north end when the wife and I were on Route 66.
I have read though that there are a LOT more attractive women in Texas than you see in other states. I'm talking fit and in shape, natural beauty without a bunch of tattoos and piercings either.

I assume it's because close in proximity to the Gulf of America
But;
compared to Northern Calif. (pretty much anywhere, except extreme south)
where I'm at in the,
Central Sierras, 25%-40% humidity (makes for fire danger)
except for the snow here in Tuolumne Co. near Yosemite,
like 5 ridges over NW
or the g-damn atmospheric rivers BS (cloud seeding BS) rain of late,
it'd be great,
but;
fuel & electricity is crazy all over Calif., real-estate is reasonable up here,
or more reasonable, like 1/2, then of the valley or Bay
& we have state taxes on income in Ca., even in San Diego,
weather doesn't make up for that crap, they get monsoons too
but all of Calif. only 1% property taxes, of the org. purchase price
(Prop 13, some of the lowest prop taxes in the nation, since like 1978-ish ? ),
so there good and Bad, weather is normally great, here
10+ months of collector car driving weather, everywhere mostly
some even 12 months
the govt. sucks ***...
I'm a bad sweater, or think I am
it's like change shirts 2 times or more a day in 'that climate'
so I don't like anything in the 80% humidity range, down south or back east
that is a 'No way in Hell deal', unless you gonna' sit inside with A/C all the time...
Texas has some great places if you don't mind dry, barren fields/open land
as far as the eye can see, but can't because the curviture of the earth
& no mountains to be seen for a long way... (even in 'The Hill' country)

& All the people moving to Texas, it's turning purple...

My daughter and son born and raised in WA until they move there in their 40s. They moved there after visiting a couple weeks during the nicest months. Same with my son’s wife and MIL. None of them know what it’s like during the hot, humid or rainy season’s. It will be interesting to see how they handle the next few years.

I don’t want to be cooped up in the house for days on in during hot, humid months.

Not very familiar with TX weather Plenty of heat and humidity here in S FL, especially during the summer. We spend a lot of it in the A/C. However, we often get very pleasant weather when it's cold up north. It basically flipped our seasons - we spend winters outdoors and summers indoors.

Lived in Ohio most of my life, but wife and I have decided between now and the next 5 years or when my wife retires, we're heading away from this friggin cold and snow...going to either NC or TN, heat and an increase in humidity out weighs the cold/snow for us.

I lived in Des Moines for three years. Just like PA, but even more extreme. Does keep the cost of living under control, unlike the places with better weather. I also spent seven years in Chicago. Same litmus test - earned income versus living costs.

We rarely get much snow anymore here in western WA. I know a lot of people from the north east that have moved here and said our winter is like their east spring.

I lived in Dallas/Fort Worth for 11 years and Seattle (Kent) for 7 years.

NB andf the area is wonderful. Yes, it is warm - thats a great part of the appeal. Humidity is MUCH less than Houston and less than the Dallas area. Good roads. Good water. Best barbecue anywhere around there. {Im partial to Coopers in Llano personally...}
BUT! I counsel against moving there...because way too many people are doing so and screwing it all up! I myself intend to be there within the next year or so, further exacerbating the problem. You wouldnt want to add to a problem would you?!?
