pot metal studs

[twice baked]

i have original 69 charger rear quarter corners with the three studs and factory nuts.The threads on a couple studs are looking pretty weak, does a guy retread smaller size or add something to the stud and rethread? As always any suggestions appreciated thanks.

My 68 R/R has similar studs, one was broken off when I got it. Drilled and tapped for 1/4 allthread and no one is the wiser. If yours wont hold that funky tower type nut it might be an option. Had to do the same on my 70 Charger to get it to suck-up to the body line.

Threaded Rod get it at NAPA.

One thing you may want to try is if the bottom of the stud has stripped were it starts to pull or clamp the most is to add a couple flat washers to get the speed nut to bite into a new area of the stud. It may also help to use a new nut { after the washers } the same size as the old but not deformed yet by use.
We run into this on late model cars, most times on plastic studs for emblems ect, the washer addition works most of the time.

Check out the JB Weld Stick Mario. It's a single premixed compound that works just as well without getting it too hot (too much activator).
