(Potentially) Stupid Question ...

It's 'potentially stupid question' time :hello2: !

To the point : will '73 & later brake calipres work on '71-'72 B Body knuckles ?

I'm asking simply because those irritating calipre springs ( "V"-shaped clips which pop the calipre back into its resting spot when the brakes are released ) are fatigued , and outright broken :eusa_doh: . No one has them available ; they were discontinued years ago ! Of course , none of the rebuilt calipres have these springs on them , nor do the calipre brake kits include them :angry9:

Any ideas ?

The way you phrased your question makes it difficult to give an easy answer, but, if I understand your question:

If your current vehicle has disc brakes (of the spring clip variety) and the parts you want to install are late model, then you can use later model brake components provided you use the caliper mount bracket that matches the donor vehicle (newer style brakes). The caliper bracket is the large "C" shaped bracket that bolt to the bor ack of your spindle.

Thanks for your reply . Sorry about the neophyte manner of my inquiry .
Originally disc brake equipped , late '72 build ( July '72 ) Coronet.

I added the '73 & up "slider" pins to the original '72 spring-type calipres in hopes of eliminating the necessity for the springs , but am not happy with the results .
The calipres themselves are only 3 year old Centric rebuilds . Inside pads wore before the outside pads even broke-in ! That's how I discovered those springs , their fatigued condition ,and subsequently , their lack of availability .

The pistons work just fine ; no leaking , no corrosion . It's 100% spring-related.

Keeping in mind that I'm green when it comes to brakes (other than knowing how to assemble/disassemble for pad changes ) , please correct me here as necessary :
The '73 & later bracket will interface with the '70-'72 piston housing , by using the '73 & later "slider" pins , right ?

Sorry about lacking the proper terms and names for the parts in my inquiry .

Not a problem my friend. Listen, I think there may be a better way to help you toward your goal here. 1st, there are only two kinds of calipers and caliper brackets; slide or pin, of which both interchange.

I'm not 'dumping' you or your post, but I think this article from Mopar Action magazine will provide the answers you are looking for and it's targeted toward 70-72 B body cars.

Check this out and, if you still have questions, post 'em up, but I suspect this article will answer any question you may have. It has part numbers and everything else you could ever need to pull off a swap
