Were these originally chrome with painted black insert valleys, or satin??
Or....were they,, or would Argent Silver look good?
Thanks,
Grumpy

On '68 Bees they were chrome with painted black, not real glossy though(satin?). Silver would be different, I guess.

Okay, thanks. You're POSSITIVE though? If they were it's time for $$$$ at the plater. I got them from someone and they did them in Silver Argent with 30 deg black inserts.

Here is what mine look like, I painted the black but the textured chrome is original finish.

I always thought it was a "brushed" chrome finish on those.
Mine were powdercoated several yrs. ago -they just don't look right so I want to get them redone again if I can find a chrome shop that can do that kind of finish.
I really don't think bright chrome would look right on them either.

Yep, I thought they were brushed chrome too. I did them so long ago and had them wrapped on a shelf I forgot what they were originally, but remembered the condition was bad. I had shot them in Light Silver Argent and did 30 deg black on the inserts.
Maybe I should just leave them like they are????????

They look pretty good and probably as close as you'll get using paint.
Mine are several shades darker than yours but that's what they had in the powdercoating world 25 yrs. ago!

They do look good. Might just go that route depending on how much the local OKC chrome shop I found here quotes me.

I mailed mine out to Paul's chrome in PA and was quoted $530 to do the chrome part only. The part of the pieces that get painted, they would not repair the pitting there. (that's like 75% of the part)
Said that It would be an extra $150 per part to do that. Figured that if your going to rechrome a piece, why would you rechrome over pitting?
Was told I will have to repair that part myself, or pay pay the extra fee..
It would have brought the total to over $830.00.

They are in the mail being sent back. Just too rich for my blood.

I will say the people at Paul's chrome were very friendly, answered their phones, and have great customer service.

You might want to try Salt Lake Chrome in Utah.
I just had my bumper guards rechromed from them they did a great job @ 45 bucks apiece.
They actually went overboard on the quality as far as I'm concerned.
They had pitting and little dents and dings all over them and they look fantastic now.
I thought that price was very reasonable and the finished product was excellent!
You can look them up on the net.

Since the pieces I have are Pot metal, it seems the price for repair and rechroming is a bit higher, so i was told and read.
Thanks, I'll check them out.
