I have a 1973 Charger 400. I do not have headers. How hard is it to get the power steering box out so it can be rebuilt?

Shouldn't be too awful, might have to pull the battery tray to slip the box out. 73 should have the rag joint on the column which may make things easier.

As easy as it is to pull the entire steering column I just did that. Dropped the starter and disconnected the Pittman arm after disconnecting hydraulic lines. Steering box came out the bottom easily.

I can't remember if I took mine out through the top or the bottom. I think I couldn't clear going up but that was with headers.

I've got a 70 with headers and I was able to install mine through the bottom without removing the headers. I just slid the column back 3"-4" and didn't take it out of the car. A pitman arm puller will be your friend. I can't remember if I had to loosen the idler arm from the drag link or not. Pretty easy, but that sucker is heavy.
