In the late 90s, I drove my '66 Imperial to Carlisle. It had a new power steering hose I had installed prior to the trip. On the way back to the car, I saw a vendor selling some used Imperial parts, and debated whether to buy a used power steering hose offered at $5 for a spare. The next day, when I was parking the car, the new hose blew, and when the hot fluid hit the exhaust manifold, started a fire. I grabbed my extinguisher, put the fire out. I went back to the swap meet, bought the $5 used hose, and ran it without incident for the next three years.
I'm sure that, 30 years later, rebuilding an original is probably a better bet that a new replacement.
