Hi Rick,

What year and model of B-Body are you working on? Are you using a vintage Hemi or a new Hemi and how much HP will you be putting to to the ground?

In general, if you are running over 400hp the 741 case 8.75 center section will not hold up for long behind a hemi. Go with a 742 or 489 setup with a clutch type suregrip. I would go with weld-in frame rail connectors because they will be stronger as they will become parts of the frame rails. I have heard good things about the U.S. Car tool frame connectors. As for the headers spend the extra money and go with the TTI's because they will fit better and you will not have to remove the drag link to install them.

I hope this has helped,
Joe

hi;
it is a 69 coronet 440
motor from a 69 RR old school rebuilt racer brown stuff and specs

thanks for the input. it has been years since i have been into this stuff.

Hey Rick, welcome. You will probably get all sorts of different suggestions. It would help if you could tell the guys your level of fabrication and welding skill.Do you want stock appearing floor inside, ours are 2X3X.125" and protrude into backseat footwell.A good plan with performance and useage can help greatly too. When you start cutting and welding having your rear suspension planned out is easier to do at the same time as the ties.Agree the 741 won't do it.

What are your plans for usage??What are your HP goals.??

i plan on weekend cruising and a cruise night or 2 a week. we have a track real close but i have a huge chevy for that yearning.
power if i had to guess is in the 500 + - range. nothing stupid.

68-69 B Bodies are like Camaro's and Mustangs as in there are plenty of parts to upgrade them with. That was not an insult just a statement! For the record I HATE BOWTIE'S AND BLUE OVAL'S

Weld in connectors. There are plenty of manufactures that have 69 RR frame connectors.

As for the rearend: Since it is going to be a cruiser for the most part you can go with a 8.75 (742 or 489).

Headers: Again since it is a cruiser go with a header that fits the best. You wont need a crazy full on race header. 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 would be fine.

I want to hear all the stories about busted 741 case rears and why it is so bad other than some damn magazine saying it was 35 years ago. The weakest point of a pinion is where the yoke fits....and what size is the 42 and the 89 again? I've been building 8 3/4 rears for a long time and I've never seen any pinions with a busted off gear head so this myth about the 41 being a piece of crap just doesn't hold water.

If you have a 41 rear with the gear ratio you want, there's no reason to chunk it (no pun intended :D). The biggest draw back to them is new gear selection is low but availability is getting better.....and weld in frame ties is always better than bolt in. Bolt in ties do not do much of anything but add weight and I'd go with at least 1 3/4 headers.

to late; i just ordered a 60 from moser, complete assembly with detroit locker. the way i look at it i will never buy another one for this car.

went with the hotchkis conectors also.
with the hemi engine, t600 tranny and moser rear i will have a first class power train.
