Guys,

I've tried adjusting everything and I just can't seem to get the window to swing enough outboard to get it to line up with the roof rail seal. As you can see from the picture I've got a ways to go to get it lined up. I've bottomed out my adjustments and the lower nut that is on the inside of the frame area that is connected to the long rail is pulled all the way inboard. Please help :(

I just got done with this job on one of our '66 Chargers and the '66 Coronet convertible. Usually the bottom of the vertical track needs to go most of the way in and the top most of the way out. If you have the wrong/later style roller assembles you will have the issues you are seeing here.

Convertible quarter window channel rollers (Large).jpg

My roller assemblies are not like the ones you have pictured, they are the ones that came on the car (69 RR). The potmetal piece on mine dont' have the indent in the middle like yours. I'm going to install the other side window and see if I have the same problems today. Boy is this frusturating, it seems like nothing as been easy in the reassembly department yet.

You sure that roof rail is in the right spot?Should be almost touching the pinch weld and it looks like i am seeing paint there, should be seeing paint on the outside of it.I just did mine saturday so its pretty fresh in my head yet.

Yeah it should be in the right spot, it won't go on any other way. Anybody got pics of thier roof rail?

Don't have any pics but have done a gazillion of these and I agree that the rail channel needs to be tight in the corner of the seam. The screws for the channel go into slots, not holes, so there is some adjustment there.
To adjust the top of the glass in and out there is an adjustor at the bottom of the track.

By the photos, it appears you don't have the 'wiskers' installed either. Are you taking into account that the inner one will push the window out some as it goes up? I held my fingers in place to fill the approximate gap while checking adjustments.

Actually I just checked a couple of my cars and yes there is a gap there. Need gap for interior trim.
Sooooo check the adjustor at the bottom of the main track. Adjust bottom of track towards the inside of the car to pull the top of the glass outwards.

Guess you did that. Is the top of the track too far in?

I am not seeing a headliner either, much easier to pull tight without that roof rail stuff in there.

Looking at that pic again, you sure you dont have them flip flopped almost looks like the driver side on the pass side?

See what mean about the color showing on the outside

Yeah I see what you mean...Huh I guess I'll have to check but I for sure know they are on the right side as the polished side will only show one way and still fit the car. So should I take the roof rails back off and do the headliner first then?

It was much easier to do the gluing and clamping the headliner with them off.We used the 3 clips plus glued the entire outside edge.We also used on bunch of those paper clips that you spread with the 2 wire handles to hold it till the glue dried.

Ok, so I verified that the roof rail mouldings are on the right side and are spaced correctly. I verified this using my passenger side, that quarter window lines up just fine. So it's got to be something with the tracks, I checked all the rollers to make sure they were actually in thier guides. I guess why my driver's side picture looks like there is no paint showing outboard is because it's being blocked by the weatherstrip. Hopefully I can get this figured out soon, it's getting annoying. Here's a pic of the driver's side.

Do not give up, I spent seven hours getting the 1/4 window in our convertible to work perfectly.

Thanks for the encouragement Jeremiah...God I hope it doesn't take that long I barely get time in the garage as it is.

X2

...I spent a Saturday (I mean the WHOLE day) getting these right on my `66 Belvy. Even though I did them back to back (okay...I did celibrate with a beer after the 1st one...), learning how each adjustment effected the window from the 1st side, the second window took almost as long as the 1st!

1. Give yourself a big time frame to work in.
2. If your hands get tired, step back for a minute.
3. Make sure you have some rags in the area below the window. I lost a roller down there that I will never get back...short of removing a quarter panel.

Music in the garage can help keep the frustration level down while working (They say it soothes the beast!). I also have a TV. Sometimes a little break to look at the 'boob-tube' calms me down when stuff is just not working right. Car shows or car movies tend to work best.

As Jeremiah said, "Do not give up!"

Your window is kicking in towards the inside of the car alot compared to wannadrag. Look where his window is at the top. Look where my glass ends up. This is a very time consuming thing. Hang in there. Its only the beginning.

Yup only the beginning is right, wait till you hang the door if you havent yet.Get ready for more glass adjusting. If the 1/4 window is off it holds the door glass out away from the seal.

The doors are hung but the windows aren't in them yet. I'm planning on installing the door window and vent window as an assembly. One thing I am noticing is that when looking at the roof rail seals from the bottom there is a thick side and skinnier side. On my car the thick side is inboard where i looks like wannadrag and Dave's is outboard. Do I have my roof rail seals on the wrong side? I know this isn't going to help my window alignment but at least I can fix that and feel I accomplished something :)

I will have to go look again at mine. It is hard to say from your pic, but you may be right'

Don't know that this will work very well. It's work enough just getting the wing vent frame in by itself, let alone with a full window anging off the back. I dunno, maybe you are on to something? :edgy:
