Question about a Dana 60 Vs 8 3/4

If you have the Dana and it is a 67 with drain plug in the bottom sell it (getting harder to find) and buy DR. Diff Strange S60 your choice of gear ,carrier ,axels you will have new and up to date equipment.
Just bought S60 for a E body happy with it from Dr Diff.

At the Mopar race last weekend it was crazy how Dana’s I saw

If I remember right I paid 1300 delivered for a yukon 489 case with 3.73 gear, a Detroit locker and billet 1350 yoke. Not dragging it yet. But it’s quiet except for some chirping around our local cruise night haunts

Charger Greg is correct, and how strong is your drive shaft and tailshaft on your transmission. Consider everything!

First the Dana is more efficient that just about any rear axle, Yes, slightly heavier with a sure grip. With a spool very little difference in weight. At 11.0 and slower a 8 3/4 will go a long time. I’d sell the factory Dana. Then take the cash and buy an S 60. It’ll be cheaper in the long run. Now if you already had an 8 3/4? I’d run it.

If you intend to lay money down for a new rear a S60 is the way to go. That said, I run the original 8.75 in my 71 Charger @ 3860lbs, 440 auto, 3.75 stroke, back brace, Dr Diff case with a 35 spline spool. Has held up fine, 1.57 60ft, runs 11.2's.

Very impressive.. what cylinder head?

Rpm's. I opened them up myself to a little over 220cc's on the intakes and had a valve job done, took .030" of the head surface for 76.4cc's. Put me at 10.9:1. SFT cam and usual bolt on's. Have changed from an 11" to a 9.5" converter but haven't had the chance for a good run as yet.

Nice to see strong stoke stroke motors

Thanks, a sub 11.0 pass with the stock stroke is the goal. Drive to and from the track, 100 mile round trip, change diff head and tires at the track.
