pinion yoke nut size 1-1/4 socket fine 29 spline yoke ( 1-5/16 nut fine 29 spline as well ) 1-1/8 socket coarse 10 spline ,, early 489 cases were 10 spline then went to 29 spline as production ramped up.
Ease of assembly. Remember they're making cool cars,,, but trying to make bank @ the same timeIf I may ask one more question. Why did Chrysler make a 741,742 and 489 case and make the 489 a crush sleeve style when they others arent? Was there a reason or is this just another "because they did" unexplainable thing.
I use my 1 1/8 quite a bit. Four link and Ladder bar rod end bolts, and also the nut for the ball on a receiver hitch. But I feel your pain. I had to buy a giant 36mm socket to change the oil filter on my F550. I'll NEVER need it for anything else, ever.Yes that was what I heard too is that 10 spline is 1 1/8 in socket if that doesn't work then you automatically know that it's a 29 spline. So the good news is that I know it's a 29 spline now, the bad news is I now bought a one and 1/8 inch socket that I can't use on anything else.lol
I paid $10 plus tax for mine. Now I have to buy another one for the larger nut for the 29 spline yokeI went the inexpensive route. Got one off of Amazon. 1/2" drive.
Stink I got mine from where I use to work.....I don't do that stuff anymore though.I paid $10 plus tax for mine. Now I have to buy another one for the larger nut for the 29 spline yoke
