I have a question inspired by 69roadr and his "A real car enthusiast" posting. Why didn't the Chrysler Corp. ever get into the Ranchero and El Camino market?

Compare mopar sales to GM and Ford. Compare their[GM and Ford] car/truck sales to their overall sales. JMO.

They did in the mid-80's. It didn't go over very well.

I owned 2 of these little trucks, they were great.

Rampage was the right car for the wrong time. I like them. A buddy has a 1984 model for sale that is very nice, with 71K original miles, and two-owner.

too busy competing with camaro...mustang....hence the Barracuda...road runner...GTX...R/T....add some badging and a big motor.

Wrong country. Chrysler DID get into it in a big way. "Utes" were very popular in Australia.

I had forgotten about the Rampages. Those were great!

I haven't seen these Utes before. Thanks for uploading the pictures. There is always a cool surprise out there when you are least expecting them :)

Chrysler was always engineering based in the past. Those vehicles are a compromise, not a staple of engineers.

I had a 84 Plymouth Scamp pick-up fwd thing too,
great parts runner, not such a great hauler about 500#'s was max

The Dakota 2 wd was kind of the El Camino/Ranchero-ish type midsize

they sold pretty well, more of a real pick-up than a El Camino/Ranchero thou

here a couple of customs too
