I just scored an 01 Durango 4.7 V8 4WD....... MINT! original paint not a ding or scratch...... garaged.......and it was FREE!

anyway it has a code 0770 shift solenoid malfunction and 1733? I can only find "0733" which says "gear 3 ratio incorrect" ....... Fluid is full and clean, not burnt..... I cleared the codes, but I did feel an isolated "slip" or disengagement of the trans...... it lasted less than a second and I noticed the light was lit shortly after......... seems to drive fine other than that, but I'm not sure if the converter is locking up at cruise, and not sure what rpm I should be turning at 60 mph in overdrive........ thanks in advance for any help

update...... took it down the road again..... did some herky jerky **** at about 50...... lit the light........only 1 code 1733 again........ cleared the code, did it again within a mile.....1 code 1733

oh.... and I noticed it wasn't starting out in low when in drive

I'm not a transmission guy, but I get that strong feeling again, nothing is free.

i never really checked out durangos...... figured they were v6's and didnt excite me..... but this v8 is strong and smooth plus 4wd for the winter..... if i get it working i'll drive the crap out of it.......i love me a good beater, especially one this clean

Hopefully it's an inexpensive solution as the article posted indicated. Best of luck with it.

I have experienced similar things with my 2007 Ram 1500. Both times it was the Shift Control Solenoid pack. To change it, you have to remove the trans pan after draining the fluid....Follow the pictures:

The entire valve body gets removed and set aside.

I apologize for the upside down picture. Top of picture is the valve body. It comes out with a series of TORX headed screws.

Finger points to the Shift Control Solenoid pack. It controls almost everything.

This is a better angle! This unit was just a few bucks over $200.

The solenoid pack is attached to the valve body assembly. The solenoid has a fat electrical plug connector on the drivers side that gets pulled off, then the valve body gets lowered away from the trans. Once out and away, the pack gets removed from the valve body, the new one goes on and you slip it all back in.
You can see the multi-pin connector.

The symptoms I had that led to all of this....The truck felt like it lost first gear. It also lost 4th and overdrive. In short, it had reverse, 2nd and 3rd. Fluid was clean and full, cold or hot it worked the same. Code reader showed SHIFT CONTROL SOLENOID so it was a no-brainer. I looked up videos on YouTube and dove right in. I have never dug this deep into a transmission before, at least one that needed to function so I could drive it to work!

My trans is the 545RFE. It is the 5 speed overdrive. It actually uses 2 filters. One like a spatula and one that looks like a small engine oil filter. Feel Free to PM me if you need any help.

I knew FBBO was my best shot..... lol :luvplace:

im thinking about tearing into it tonight.....it 5 feet away

Many electrical parts either work or they don't. These electrical/hydraulic parts can be intermittent. Mine would slip sometimes, I'd shut the engine, restart and it would be fine.

yeah.... that's the kinda **** that's going on...... it seems to work fine until it bucks and lights the light .....then i lose 1st gear..... but 1st is there if i put the shifter in low....reset the code and its good for a mile or so

Kern..... your effort here is greatly appreciated...... and Kid also....:thankyou:
JUst one of the many services that I offer free of charge. If you were closer I'd enjoy helping you dig into it!
I checked prices before I bought mine. The first time, the dealer wanted over $300. The nearby NAPA store had it for $240 with a $200 core.
The most recent time was in April this year. The dealer was on backorder with no ETA on arrivals. The NAPA store had none West of the Rockies. I had to wait for some slow wagon trail delivery that took almost a week!
I'm at 332,000 miles so I expect things to break.

this looks to have a very neat and even application of black sealant on the pan.... looks too good not to be factory..... you recall anything like that?
