question for transmission guys

Mine had that. The factory used an oil resistant RTV sealant.
I've serviced mine several times since I bought it. I've used gaskets, I've used sealant. They both have been great.

looks like napa offers 3 separate solenoids for 2001 ...... on the napa site there are like 6 trannys to choose from for 01 durango... how do I i.d. a tranny? I think I picked the right one

which one of these would be a "shift solenoid"?, if any? since that was one of the original codes

Pioneer’s line of automatic transmission service and repair products covers the automatic transmission market from A to Z; from Allison to ZF. Pioneer’s transmission service parts line is comprised of well over 1500 part numbers. This is the most comprehensive line for domestic cars and trucks, which includes the industry’s most extensive import coverage.

Symptoms of a Faulty Shift Solenoid:

  • Delayed gear shifting
  • Transmission will not downshift
  • Transmission gets stuck in neutral
  • Shifting gears becomes rough and choppy
  • Erratic Shifting – Transmission shifts into the wrong gear, skips a gear or shifts back and forth unpredictably

Does your trans pan look like mine?

The only electrical part I can remember from inside my trans is the one that I posted. I'm not familiar with the other ones.

so rock auto and napa both offer a "kick down" but only rock auto has the "shift solenoid" but it's out of stock...... wtf

It is 10:25 here and I've been inside since 8:00. YOU are a baller!

lol.... it was very hot and humid today...... then it poured, it's like a sauna..... I been messin with stuff all day....... went through like 4 shirts........ now i'm in the A/C fuckin A!

so it appears to me that the kickdown solenoid and the shift solenoid are the same thing....this guy calls it kickdown

I went with what the Code Reader and Dealer called it.
It does far more than just control the downshift/Kickdown functions.
Having a 2 post lift made it a fairly easy job aside from having a little ATF+4 in my face.

evidently the white plug unit they are calling "kickdown" solenoid replaces the black plug unit listed on rock auto as a "shift" solenoid in 99-03 models...... and must also replace the "detent plate" mentioned at 9:15 here.... i'll be an expert next week

that explains why rock auto lists the "shift solenoid" (pictured differently and with a black plug) as out of stock

If 1733 is definetely the only code being set, it can be a tricky diagnosis. I looked through Chrysler's diagnostic tree on Alldata, and it pretty involved. If solenoid doesn't fix it, look carefully at all connectors and harness, including at TCM.

well..... I'm ready for parts........minimal mess..... pretty easy......

SOOoooooo.......What is the news? Did you get anything started yet? ATF+4 in your hair and ears?
